We've been waiting a while for the engineer elite specialization, especially when you consider it was first shown during the Heart of Thorns trailer, alongside the Druid. Thankfully it's finally here and it sounds and looks absolutely fantastic. Wielding a hammer and using robotic Gyro's it's shaping up to be the profession many people were hoping for when turrets were first announced all those years ago.

When it comes to the hammer it sounds as though it not only uses a lightning theme, but offers a variety of fields and skills that provide mobility and boons. Of the three mentioned in the blog post, Rocket Charge sounds particularly promising as a leap finisher, especially when used in a lightning field that you can drop.

Rocket Charge

Leap forward repeatedly, swinging your hammer at enemies after each jump.

With this skill you’ll bound three times to your target, allowing you to rapidly enter the thick of battle. You’ll leap finish any fields on the way, arming you with combo effects for an even more devastating arrival.

Interestingly, the scrapper has a new use for its "F" interact key. Unlike other professions that have to interract with a downed ally or to stomp a downed enemy, the scrapper gains access to a Function Gyro.

Becoming a scrapper changes your interaction prompt (usually done with the F key) to now summon a multipurpose Function Gyro next to a targeted downed ally which resurrecting them or beside a targeted downed foe to finish them off—at range.

This allows you to keep the battle going and lock down a foe while your gyro gets your ally back into the fight or ends that pesky enemy before their friends can aid them. You’ll also be able to trait the Function Gyro so that it deploys with stability, further improving its odds of success.

As for other Gyro's that are mentioned, there's one that cures conditions and one that stealths the engineer and those around him. Their Toolkit skills include the ability to create a poison cloud and to reveal stealthed players.

Finally, there's a brief list of traits:

(Minor) Impact Savant: The duration of your outgoing stuns is increased and the duration of stuns applied to you is decreased.

Mass Momentum: Gain Power based upon your Toughness. While you are affected by stability, gain stacking might.

Perfectly Weighted: Gain an increased chance to critically hit with hammer skills. When you critically strike with a hammer skill, you gain stability.

Shocking Speed: Apply super speed to nearby allies whenever you leap or blast finish a lightning field.

Rapid Regeneration: Quickly recover health while affected by swiftness or super speed.
