Today, Planetside 2 begins closed beta testing for Playstation 4, preparing the popular free-to-play MMOFPS to be available for a whole new audience. While MMOs aren't the console standard, they're angling themselves to become a genre accessible through consoles, which will blend the PC and console crowd in more than the traditional RPG way. Overall, this has been something studios have been working on for awhile, including SOE, which has had previous UI barriers. If you enter “Planetside 2” into your search bar, the second result is PS4, right after no added on entry. It's obviously been a long anticipated release, so I hope there are some awesome testers involved with the closed beta phase.

Players can still register for the Closed Beta, which begins today with a few thousand initial invites followed by a steady increase throughout the Beta period. The Beta period for PlanetSide 2 on PlayStation 4 will enable SOE to test servers, performance and various other aspects of the game. Players in Beta are fully encouraged to offer constructive feedback through community forums and official PlanetSide 2 social channels.

PlanetSide 2 Closed Beta is now available for the PlayStation 4 in the United States, though the Beta will expand to future countries and territories in the near future.
