NCsoft Game Cards Add More Than Time

NCsoft offers more than time on Game Cards

Crossing the boundary between something like a typical loot card in a trading card game, and a game card that adds subscription time to an account, NCsoft has announced its Game Cards which do not require the purchase of the game:

Game Cards make a great gift for the gamer in your life. Get full access to City of Heroes (including City of Villains and an exclusive jet pack) for 30 days without buying the game or using a credit card. You can also get full access to Richard Garriott's Tabula Rasa for 30 days. Or play our high-octane Mech shooter — Exteel — and get 1,200 NCcoin to upgrade your Mech for the price of 1,000! No credit card required.

Heading to the usual megalomarts like Best Buy and Target, NCsoft is going to test some very new territory. Not a microtransaction (at $10-15), but not full game price either ($40-60), the game cards will be sold in areas of the stores with full game boxes. And since you don't need to buy the full game to play via the cards, you are getting the best of both worlds in a sense. Add in the idea of NCcoin and the cards may be better than paying a monthly subscription, interesting. Check out the rest of the news at NCsoft.
