While online gaming communities have always been important to
MMOGs, there's been an increasing amount of upcoming games that are
really focusing on insuring that their communities are integrated into
the game's creation. In these development companies - like Cryptic
Studios - the community managers attempt to bring as much pertinent
information as possible to their community members, which allows those
community members to actively spread the word about their upcoming
game. Cryptic Studios in particular loves to host the occasional
fan-based Q&A, and the Ten Ton Hammer staff has posted their
most recent Q&A from href="http://www.tentonhammer.com/taxonomy/term/860"

Heroes
in Champions Online will be able to utilize the environment.

What plans does Champions Online have
for allowing players to utilize objects in the environment as weapons?
(Ex_Machina)

Arkayne (Lead Designer): We've got awesome
weapon-izing and throwing of environmental objects throughout our game,
Ex_Machina! Check out our excellent hands-on demo at GenCon 2008 and
you'll see first-hand what your heroes can do! If you can't make the
convention, be sure to watch our web site for follow-up articles.

Are you planning on adding more powers after
release? (MeSoSollyWan)

Arkayne: Definitely! We want to keep
expanding the Champions Online universe as much
as we can and player powers are part of that goal. Players love new
powers and we love building them!

What elements will best support RP in Champions
Online?
Will there be designated RP servers or RP hotspots, such as a certain
inter-dimensional night club in some other awesome superhero MMO I've
heard about? (Cosma)

There
will be RP support in Champions Online.

Arkayne: We've planned some great social
spots in
Millennium City for players to gather in both their secret IDs and in
their hero identities. Also, every zone is designed with relatively
safe areas for players to gather, socialize, and role-play.

How will missions be handed out in game? Will
we get them
from contacts scattered all over Millennium City or will we discovered
them as we patrol the city? (Creoleman)

Arkayne: There are a variety of ways to
acquire
missions, Creoleman! There are all manner of legal authorities, fellow
heroes, etc. that are around "hotspot" areas around the Champions
Universe looking for a hero to help them out with their problems. There
are "crime computers" and holographic terminals found in certain areas
of the game. Sometimes players will encounter victims desperately in
need of rescue out in hostile environments. Heroes can find "clue
items" on defeated foes that open up new missions. There are also
"exploration missions" that are automatically added based on the hero's
presence in an area. In short – there's plenty of ways for a
hero to
get involved!

Will Cryptic's License of STO affect the
Space/Moon aspects of Champions Online? (hermes.crespo)

Arkayne: Star Trek Online
is a separate game
set in a separate universe with a separate development team. The only
thing in common between the two is the use of our core Cryptic Engine.

Star
Trek Online will not directly affect Champions Online.

On capes will/can there be an option for a
collar (i.e. Doc Strange, Vision, Dracula)? (Grim Vengeance)

Absinthe (Lead Character Artist):
Unfortunately no, we have no way to stop long hair from flowing
completely through a cape collar.

Will male characters be allowed make-up? If not
why - Many
famous villains had makeup, and although it's heroes – what's
wrong
with a crime fighting clown? (Portex)

Absinthe: One of my favorite heroes ever
was Clowny
the Crime Fighting Makeup Artist! But yes, there will be various styles
of makeup for males.
