What is EverQuest II?

So glad you asked! EverQuest II, often called EQ2, is Massively Multi-player Online Role Playing Game (shortened to MMORPG) published by Sony Online Entertainment. This game is based off of the lore and history of Norrath, a land made popular by the game EverQuest. Make no mistake though, EQ2 is vastly different than the original EverQuest and not at all a true sequel.

Why would I choose to play EQ2 over all the other games out there?

EverQuest II currently provides 24 class choices, 19 playable races, and 5 starting cities that are available via the original game and with the 4 game expansions: Desert of Flames, Kingdom of Sky, Echoes of Faydwer, and Rise of Kunark. The content provided in EQ2 is amazing and this game has both the benefits of having the look and stellar graphics of a newer game balanced with having been around long enough to be smooth and well rounded.

What's the story behind EverQuest II?

The world of Norrath has been devastated by both war and the unnatural event of our moon's shattering. Cities, people, and entire continents have been lost or hidden for many years. Through exploration and determination, some nearly forgotten places have been reclaimed and many old lands have been completely reformed.

If you played the original EverQuest you will recognize a lot of what you see, but there are plenty of features of land and race that are unique to EQ2. Our lore is a wonderful blend of what once was, and what this game has created for itself!

Where can I buy EverQuest II?

EverQuest II is available a variety of ways. Generally, you can find it at your local EB Games or Game Stop, Best Buy, or local software store, but sometimes you'll need to call around a bit to make sure someone has it in stock. You can also buy the direct download from the Station Store or Direct2Drive.com. If you plan on buying EQ2, be sure to buy the newest compilation that will include the base game and all of the expansions. At the time of writing this FAQ, the Rise of Kunark All-in-One was your best option at around $50.00 USD. This game does have a monthly subscription rate of around $15.00 USD per month.

What are the minimum system requirements to play EverQuest II?

Minimum: Windows® 2000/XP, Pentium® III 1 Ghz or greater, 512 MB RAM, DirectX 9 Compatible video card. Pixel shader and vertex shader compatible hardware with 64MB of texture memory, DirectSound compatible audio hardware, 56k Internet Connection, 16x DVD-ROM, 10GB Hard Drive Space.

Recommended: Windows® 2000/XP/Vista, Pentium® 4 2 Ghz or greater, 1 GB RAM, DirectX 9 Compatible video card. Pixel shader and vertex shader compatible hardware with 128MB of texture memory or greater, DirectSound compatible audio hardware, Broadband Internet Connection, 16x DVD-ROM, 10GB Hard Drive Space.

What server choices are there?

EQ2 has various server options to suit nearly every kind of player! Along with the many basic servers, we also have localized European servers in both English speaking and non-English speaking varieties, Player versus Player servers, Roleplaying servers, and Live Gamer (auction enabled) servers.

If I choose a server I don't like, can I change servers?

Yes and no. The regular PvE (Player vs Environment) servers allow for transfers to and from other PvE servers. You may also transfer a character from PvE to a Live Gamer (Sanctioned trade and auctions) server, but you cannot transfer FROM a Live Gamer server. PvP (Player vs Player) servers do not allow for transfers to or from PvE servers. Make your server selection carefully!
