What are the classes of EQ2?

EQ2 has 24 classes under the 4 archtypes of Fighter, Mage, Priest, and Scout. The class choices are beyond impressive and sometimes confusing, so a little blurb in a FAQ isn't going to cover them very well. Please visit this Class Guide to get a complete list of the classes, learn a bit about them and find links to the more in depth individual class guides.

How does the class system work?

If you played EverQuest II early on, you might recall that you once started out as a fighter, and then progressed to your class at level 10, then subclass at level 20. This was ALL removed and you now choose your subclass at character creation and play it from level 1. This gives each class a distinctive feel from the very start!

Can you change your class if you don't like the one you have chosen?

Somewhat. You can't just go talk to an NPC and choose a new class and you cannot change just to any class. The betrayal system allows for players to change home cities and also allows for a change of subclass within a class. This means that if you are a Conjurer in Qeynos, if you would like to change class, you may betray to Neriak or Freeport and become a Necromancer. If you happen to play a neutral class then you can actually betray your city, the gain back faction to the same city but choose a different class when it comes time. An example of this is a Freeport based Wizard could betray then gain back faction with Freeport and choose to become a Warlock without having to move to another city.

Keep in mind though that betrayal is a long process and it does reset all of your abilities once you have changed class.

Which class is the best soloing class?

All classes can solo with a little patience. The key is getting to know what your class can do, what gear you should have, and keeping those spells and combat arts upgraded.

Some classes do shine a little brighter when being played solo. A popular choice is either one of the summoners. Because the necromancer and the conjurer are both pet classes, they play like a duo which makes soloing a bit easier and this class is a good option for those who like some laid back gameplay.

Many also have great luck with the swashbuckler and brigand. These classes deal with a lot of stealth and specialized stuns and flanking shots that make it ideal to solo if you like the action. There is more thought and strategy involved, but the reward is impressive solo gameplay.

How do I know which class is for me?

Reading up on the classes is great and it can be helpful for some people, but what if you're stuck as to what class to try? It takes some time, but the only way to know for sure if to just play some that look good. I personally tried several classes before I came upon my main class, but I very quickly knew that it was THE perfect class for me!
