Getting an inheritance is usually a good thing. Oftentimes it means some family member may be pushing up daisies, but it also means you might have just been left a large chunk of cash. However, this bittersweet event takes a dark turn in Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures as you inherit a cursed piece of parchment that will send you on a series of quests to discover what is disturbing the dead across the land. In the process, you can earn yourself some fun little social items.

style="border: 0px solid ; width: 200px; height: 202px;" />

The parchment you inherit comes with a dark message.

The event begins with a mysterious letter you receive through the in-game mail system. The letter will tell you of a cursed page you have inherited and implore you not to claim it. The subtle hint here is that you need to use /claim to get the item. Once you receive the ‘Partially Translated Page’ you can click on it to begin the quest event.

The letter reads:

It has come to my attention that your inheritance now includes a page from a rare tome, The Long Night of Lost Souls. The ancient parchment is fragile and, if left unclaimed, will most certainly disintegrate to dust. This is your best course of action.

I fear the warning I am about to pen will only tickle your curiosity further, but I write it anyway: do not /claim this page. It is mortally dangerous. The book is said to bring untold suffering to all who read from it, even a single word opens the reader to contact with the restless dead and eldritch truths best left forgot. Please, do not put yourself at greater risk. Moldy superstitions aside, the scribbling of dark sorcerers are not the best reading on a bright afternoon - let alone this dim-dark time of year.

However, if you ignore this warning and /claim the cursed inheritance, it is in your best interest to dispose of the page immediately. Do not read it. By the gods, do not try to puzzle out the meaning of the crazed 'prophecies'. Obsessions over ancient prophecies have cost me too many friends already.

From Myrina, Librarian of Old Tarantia

style="border: 0px solid ; width: 200px; height: 110px;" />

The Ghostly Scholar is your first stop in AoC's new seasonal event.

Your next stop is the Tarantia Gardens to speak with the Ghostly Scholar. The gardens are located just behind the library in Old Tarantia. You will find the Ghostly Scholar roaming the gardens and partially transparent.

Once you speak with the Ghostly Scholar, you will get more of the story about the event. The scholar was actually working on translating the parchment before his best friend drove a dagger into his ribs. What are friends for eh? To make a long story short, ‘The Long Night’ is a series of ever-growing nights that take place during the harvest season. It is also known as the dim-dark journey of the dead. Due to certain events, the dead are stirring across the land and the veil between the living world and the dead world is beginning to fade in certain areas and you need to find out why and fix it.

In order to solve the problem you will get two riddles which serve as two quests. I am going to spoil them here so if you don’t want to know about them you should probably stop reading now.

There are two kinds of riddles that you will get and each will give you a different quest. The first is a two-part solo quest starting with 'Souls of the Dead'. The second is a group quest called the 'Souls of the Damned' and it takes place in the Oasis of Zaara. In order to get the group quest you will need to speak with the scholar a second time and work through the text. Now we’ll take a quick walkthrough of each.

Souls of the Dead

The 'Souls of the Dead' takes place in the Fields of the Dead. Your first task is head for the entrance of the Haunted Forest. This is south of the entrance. The location is marked on the map below.

title="" target="_blank"> src="http://www.tentonhammer.com/image/view/76055" alt="" width="402" height="420"

style="border: 0px solid ; width: 200px; height: 110px;" />

Cerdia holds the offering for the Field of the Dead altar.

Once you reach the bridge the quest will update and you will need to speak with Cerdia not too far from where you get the update. She will give you the item you need to activate the altar and face the spirit within the forest. Head into the forest and click on the altar to spawn the chieftain. The fight isn’t too hard, so you shouldn’t have a lot of trouble bringing this guy down. The altar isn’t too far from the entrance of the forest, so it’s not a long run. Just head south from the bridge and you should run right into it. You may need to fight a few enemies along the way. Just be sure the area is clear before you click the altar.

Once the chieftain is dead the quest will complete and you will need to return to the Ghostly Scholar for your reward and the next part of your quest. You’ll earn a bag with a couple of social items in it. You’ll also be able to pick up the second part of the quest called 'Souls of the Forgotten'.

style="border: 0px solid ; width: 300px; height: 167px;" />

Souls of the Forgotten

Remember our old friend Lord Camillus? It seems the dead are now in his little villa and you’re going to need to cleanse it for the next task. Make your way to the Tarantia Noble District and head for Villa Camillus. As you enter you’ll notice the villa itself has taken on a bit of a new look as is apparent by the fountain of spurting blood at the entrance. Don’t drink unless you’ve had your shots! A few steps in you’ll get a quest update and be prompted to find an offering for the spirit.

style="margin: 10px; border-collapse: collapse; float: right; width: 200px; height: 110px;"
border="1">

href="http://www.tentonhammer.com/node/76061"
title="" target="_blank"> src="http://www.tentonhammer.com/image/view/76061" alt="" width="200" height="110"
style="border: 0px solid ; width: 200px; height: 110px;" />

Villa Camillus takes on a whole new look in this seasonal instance.

The parchment for this quest reads:

'Dark sorcery brews in the homes of fallen nobility, kept in jars and bottles. The Lord's forgotten commander rises, yet she shall not be appeased while her gaze is unfettered. Her undying troops hold bitterly the mask of her dark vigilance.'

The item you need drops from the Restless dead in the villa. I got mine fairly early, so your next task is to fight your way to the altar. The room the altar is located in is directly to the west. This version of the Villa is much smaller and won’t take as long to get through. However, the altar in this quest is actually a weapons rack, so make your way to the back of the room and place the offering on it to summon the commander.

style="margin: 10px; border-collapse: collapse; float: left; width: 200px; height: 110px;"
border="1">

href="http://www.tentonhammer.com/node/76059"
title="" target="_blank"> src="http://www.tentonhammer.com/image/view/76059" alt="" width="200" height="110"
style="border: 0px solid ; width: 200px; height: 110px;" />

Providing the offering to the altar will bring forth Soul Commander Tullia.

Soul Commander Tillia is a little tougher than the chieftain. She summons two equal level Soul Devourer minions to join the fight, so make sure you bring some healing potions if you can’t heal yourself. Once she’s dead you can return to the scholar for your reward of more social items.

Souls of the Damned

The last quest is the group-based one known as 'Souls of the Damned'. You’ll need help for this one as it takes place in the Oasis of Zaara. Your first task is to pass through the gate of the dead.

Once your group is assembled, start fighting your way through the Oasis. You’ll need to make your way about halfway through where you will find the gate of the dead. This is actually a giant bone tunnel that spans into an area where you will find members of the Koruno tribe. Passing through this tunnel will update your quest and prompt you to once again find an offering. The offering you need is dropped by the Koruno tribe, so you and members of your group will need to farm it for each person.

Once you have the offering, keep fighting your way towards the main chieftain tent near the end of the instance. After clearing out the surrounding enemies you will find an altar in one of the tents. Have all of your members click the altar before you kill the boss to avoid having to do this multiple times.

The enemy you face this time is called Meht-Urt, Watcher of the Void. She’s not a pushover. This wench will summon around 6 equal level Void Devourer minions to assist in battle. Not to mention her spells hurt, so bring a healer and be ready for a fairly tough fight.

The gate of the dead is a bone-like tunnel in the Oasis of Zaara.
This map contains the location of the alter and boss for the Oasis seasonal event.
Meht-Urt, Watcher of the Void will await your challenge once you make the offering at the altar.

Once the evil wench is dead you can return to the Ghostly Scholar to claim your final prize, your very own Devourer pet. How can you not love something so adorably hideous?

title="" target="_blank"> src="http://www.tentonhammer.com/image/view/76051" alt="" width="200" height="100"

Completing the group seasonal event earns you a new social pet.
Social clothing is also a reward of completing the seasonal event quests.
You can earn these void potion rewards to give your character a darker look.

Funcom’s new event isn’t too long, but it offers some fun little rewards for players to earn and use for amusement. The pet itself is rather comical as it struts around behind you grunting and pointing at anyone that gets close. The potions offer an amusing change to your character, but if you zone they tend to lose their affect. Overall, the entire event is worth doing and is pretty amusing. The changes to some of the game’s more familiar zones offer a nice incentive to revisit some places of old.
