StarCraft II: Wings Of Liberty Beta Schedule

We’d like to let all of our StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty beta test participants know that the first phase of the beta test will be coming to an end in all regions on Monday, May 31. The beta test will be unavailable for several weeks while we make some hardware and software configuration changes in preparation for the final phase of the beta test and the release of the game. We plan to bring the beta test back online for a couple of weeks prior to the game’s launch to complete our testing. We’ll have more details to share about when this final beta-testing phase will begin at a later date.

We’d like to thank all of our beta-test participants for your enthusiasm, dedication, and valuable feedback during the beta test, and we look forward to hearing more of your thoughts on the StarCraft II beta test as the game’s July 27 launch approaches.

All good things come to an end eventually, and to everyone involved in the first phase of Starcraft II beta testing this has been a really good thing. It's been a thrill to see the game evolving before our eyes as the weeks passed and it came to its current state.

There are officially 2 weeks left until the beta closes down for an indeterminate amount of time, then starts back up and presumably goes live shortly thereafter.

I would imagine that this signals that Blizzard is fairly satisfied with the current game balance, and that they've ironed out the majority of major bugs. When the beta comes back online for the second phase it sounds like it will be largely to make sure the Battle.net 2.0 infrastructure is sound and the servers are operable for when the game goes live.

For World of Warcraft enthusiasts, I would personally speculate that the late phases of the second wave, and the July 27 release date are likely to coincide with patch 3.3.5 which will be adding the Real ID capabilities to World of Warcraft. Battle.net 2.0, and with it Starcraft II, have this system built in already and it seems logical that Blizzard would want to have the platform integrated into WoW by the time SC2 goes live.

For those that just got into the beta in the most recent wave of friend-invites, we can only hope that the downtime between phase 1 and 2 is minimal so that everyone can get in some additional play time.
