How deeply do the connections forged in a virtual space impact the real
lives of those who create them? An in game GM event imprinted a lasting
memory for US Army Major Thomas Wiktorek in Star Wars Galaxies just

share Wiktorek's story with him and Jason Ryan, the SOE developer who
helped create it.

Wiktorek
explained how the game had an impact on his day-to-day life. “I know it
sounds kind of morbid,” he said, “but once, when I was deployed, I
ended up giving away all my stuff to my guildies. I pretty much said,
‘Look, if something happens, my wife will contact you guys to let you
know that I’m not going to be back.’”
