When Champions Online announced that it would be going free-to-play in 2011 it also brought a lot of questions about how the game will be handled after the transition. One of those questions came in the form of the new archetype system, which will allow player to choose one path and perform that chosen role well. In a new preview for Archetypes, Cryptic details the differences between Free-Form heroes (subscription) and Archetype heroes (free-to-play). In short, Archetypes are pre-defined builds. Players can't mix their powers as they can when creating a Free-Form character. Instead, Archetypes are a direct and clear path and excel in one area. Check out the full preview for more details and a chart that compares the two.
