You might be familiar with Derek Smart from his work and the ensuing controversy that surrounded Alganon and Quest Online last year. But Smart also runs his own game development studio, 3000AD. Recently, the Florida-based game developer announced its latest project and 15th PC title with "Line of Defense", a sci-fi MMOG in which thousands of players fight for control of various bases located on the game's planets and far reaches of space in a persistent world.

The game will offer a hybrid free-to-play and premium model for players to choose from. Line of Defense is expected to release sometime before the end of 2011. You can learn more about the game on the official Line of Defense website and via the official FAQ.
