Fire Rifts originate from the Plane of Fire, which is home to Maelforge. One of the six ancient Dragon Gods known as the Blood Storm. Maelforge embodies the power of flame and destruction which he uses to spread pure chaos, for the pure self serving joy of it. Maelfore seeks to cause chaos and destruction on huge scales, but not to outright destroy Telara as Regulos wants to do. After all, what would he do for fun after?

When a Rift opens from the Plane of Fire it can be seen from great distances as the sky weeps flames and the very land crackles to release molten rivers of magma. The area around a fire rift quickly becomes a wasteland, as the searing temperatures and dancing flames burn anything nearby.

Then when you think it can't get any worse, the creatures from that fiery elemental plane burst through the rift and spread out from the area to sow further chaos as they raze the area of anything combustible. Maelforge's followers are just as deranges as he is and delight in aggression, chaos, and destruction for no sake other than their personal enjoyment.

Fire Rift Locations

Fire Rifts can be found in many different zones in Telara as the elemental forces try to invade the world. They are found in the zones that are either arid or hot, or in the zones that have a lot of fuel for the fire. This means that you will find Fire Rifts in the zones of Droughtlands, Gloamwood, Scarlet Gorge, Silverwood, and Shimmersand.

Creatures

Some of the various Fire Rift creatures

There are numerous inhabitants that come from the Plane of Fire that can be found around a Fire Rift. Many of the invaders come in demonic forms such as daemons, imps, and hellhounds. There are also fire based versions of normal creatures to be found such as satyrs, kobolds, lizardmen, and more. Sometimes you will even find fire elementals themselves come to fight on Telara.

No matter what type of creature you find coming from a Fire Rift, you can be sure of two things. Firstly that they are deranged psychopaths bent on aggression and destruction more than any other Rift based enemy. Secondly, you have better kill them before they kill you.

Usable Spawned Objects

Items that can grant you buffs while fighting a Fire Rift

When fighting near a Fire Rift you will occasionally see additional items spawn on the ground that can be clicked to activate. These items can appear in different forms and have different effects.

The most common items that spawn from Fire based Rifts are crystals that can grant bonuses to your character. They come in three colours: Red, Green and Blue. The Red grant an attack power / spell power increase for a short time, while Green and Blue regenerate health and mana respectively. All three are extremely useful and you should watch for them and grab them when you can.

Notoriety

While defeating Fire Rifts you will earn notoriety with either the Order of Flame if you are a Guardian or with the Ember Scholars if you are a Defiant player. Unkrat is the quartermaster for the Order of Flame and can be round in Sanctum, while Atlas Nicolo is the quartermaster for the Ember Scholars and can be found in Meridian.

Casters and Healers should focus on this faction and start earning notoriety early with them for once they reach level 50. This faction has a level 50 planar essence for sale once you are decorated with them that grants +Focus which is a key casting stat.

Fire Rift Zone Events

Each zone in which Fire Rifts burn through the void between planes and burst into Telera has a unique set of events that can start that opens up even more Rifts to the Plane of Fire. These encounters or events are different from zone to zone and are based on the zone's level of difficulty. This means that you should expect zone events for lower level players in Silverwood, and high level players in Droughtlands for example.

The culmination of each zone event is the defeat of a boss that will complete the event and earn you an achievement. The bosses and achievements are as follows, listed as the boss name and then the achievement you earn.

  • Silverwood – Cinderon (Cinderfella), Mar’Kul (Kul Down)
  • Gloamwood – Gobogon (Burn Notice), Kallusifer (Extinguished)
  • Scarlet Gorge – Deregal (Ashes to Ashes), Fenkor (Kiss of the Flame)
  • Droughtlands – Silnoir (Dragon Warrior), Kartok (Knight of Flames)
  • Shimmersand – Valificur (Sire and Sand)

[protip] Don't forget that most artifacts are not soulbound and can therefore be traded between your own characters, with friends, or even bought and sold on the auction house. This means that you can complete most sets easier, or make a lot of platinum by selling those hard to find rare (blue) artifacts. I have seen some rare artifacts going for 50 platinum or more![/protip]
