Star Trek Online’s (STO) first expansion, Legacy of Romulus, is set to depart spacedock next month, but there are still a lot of questions about what the expansion will hold and how the new Romulan factions will play a role in the galaxy at large. In an effort to address some of these questions and more, Executive Producer Dan Stahl posted a new interview in which he fields questions about the expansion and shed some light on how Romulans will interact with the Federation and Klingon Empire.

Stahle offered a lengthy answer about the Romulans two warring factions, each separate and operate independently from the Federation and Klingons. The two factions are the player starting faction of the Romulan Republic, led by D’Tan, a student of Spock that is working towards the reunification philosophy, and the Romulan Military and Tal Shiar, led by self-proclaimed Empress Sela, daughter of Star Trek TNG’s Tasha Yar. Players that choose to play as a Romulan will take up arms in the uneasy alliance and have the chance to work with, not for, Federation or Klingon forces to help aid and further advance the Romulan Republic.

The new Romulan faction will also have some useful features at launch that the others enjoy such as full access to the Duty Officer system, access to lockbox ships, and access to three starting races – Romulans, Remans, and the more flexible Alien-gen, which is only available to subscribers.
