The latest Star Trek Online dev blog delves more into the starship changes that are headed to Tribble for testing. For starters, the Nebula and Excelsior class starships in-game availability are being removed and will only be available only on the C-Store. The two ships will be getting an upgrade and this has become another hot point of discussion on the official Star Trek Online forums with some players calling it the beginning of pay to win as the ships will become more powerful and when purchased from the C-Store will come with a valuable console item, an additional console slot and an extra Bridge Officer slot.

The other news for Federation captains is that the Excelsior and Nebula class starships in the Commander tier are moving from being available in the game to being sold on the C-Store. This change is being tried in order to balance the offerings at each tier. These ships are also getting an upgrade so that they include a valuable console item. Both will be getting an additional console slot and the Excelsior will be getting an additional Bridge Officer slot. Players who have one of these ships prior to the F2P build going to Holodeck will find that their ships are upgraded and receive the additional console item.

Other Star Trek Online C-Store ships will also be getting some adjustments with a piece of gear that can be carried over to other ships and combined with in-game gear. Ships on Holodeck will receive the item once the changes go through to live. Players will also be happy to know that Cryptic is bringing back the free-starship token at the rank of Lt. Commander and Commander. The discount token for Silver players will continue and subscribers will be granted a free starship at those ranks.

Before anyone goes off on a tangent, it is important to remember that these changes are just being tested and could change. If you would like to help influence that change, spend some time on Tribble and offer some feedback. Read the full Path to F2P dev blog to see the full list of planned ship changes for Tribble.
