TERA's
amani race is the game's fearsome warrior breed. These descendants of
dragons have a lot to be proud about. Having survived centuries of
enslavement by the giants after the war against the devas, the amani
now continue with an attitude of "We've lived through far worse than style="font-style: italic;">this."

The amani is a fearsome creature, but trust and honor are held as their
highest virtue. However, due to their history, they have a natural
aversion to bonds, whether it be a deal, contract or even friendship.
Once they've agreed to a bond though, they will not break it.

In TERA,
the amani city of Kaiator is under ceaseless attack from the argon, but
the city still stands strong. This almost seems to please the amani, as
it provides them a ready supply of enemies available at a moment's
notice. This reminds them of their freedom and their first tase of
self-determination, and they like it.

David Noonan, Lead Writer of En Masse Entertainment was able to share
some more information about the amani race with Ten Ton Hammer, and the
aman role in TERA.

The amani are fierce soldiers descended from dragons.

TTH: As descendants of
dragons, what sort of natural traits do the amani have in terms of
unique abilities or stats in the game?

style="font-weight: bold;">

DN: At this
point we aren’t confirming whether we will have racial traits or not.

TTH: An aman can be which
classes?

DN: An aman
can be any of them: warrior, lancer, berserker, slayer, archer,
sorcerer, priest, or mystic. I think many amani will be berserkers just
because the character animations are particularly cool.

TTH: How deep-rooted is
the amani's devotion to Amarun, Kaia and Lok, and how will that affect
what they can and cannot do in game?

DN: Just
like in the real world, religious affiliation is a personal thing, and
players won’t find their choices constrained by their racial heritage.
It’s the Age of Mortals in TERA, after all, and the gods’ powers are
greatly diminished.

TTH: Is there devotion
now mainly to Kaia as she continues to guide them, or do they still
have a respect for Lok, and Amarun himself?

DN: As a
rule, the amani revere Kaia, and because she shows up in their capital
city, Kaiator, from time to time, it’s a more tangible relationship.
Reverence for Amarun tends to be more abstract—maybe the occasional
oath or prayer, and that’s it. The amani feeling toward Lok is more
nuanced. On the one hand, Lok was instrumental in freeing the amani
from slavery. On the other hand, Lok killed Balder and ignited the
final god-against-god battles that ended the Divine War. Amani argue
all the time about Lok—although most are relieved that he isn’t around
to cause trouble anymore.

Amani tenacity and
endurance ensures they can stand toe to toe with much larger enemies.

TTH: Since the amani were
created by Amarun, one of the first gods dreamed into existence, how
does that reflect Tera's view of the race?

DN: In the
world of TERA,
most people think of the amani in terms of their liberation from
slavery and their stalwart defense against the argons. All of the
mortal races have “moved on” from their original creator gods, because
those gods were casualties of the Divine War. Among all six races—but
the amani especially—there’s a sense that mortals are charting their
own destiny for the first time.

TTH: The Argons have been
directly attacking Kaiator for some time. Has this become the Amani's
main focus of the war against the Argons, or are they taking the
offensive as well?

DN: The
front near Kaiator is at an impasse when the game begins, but it’s a
meatgrinder more than a stalemate. The armies of the Valkyon Federation
(the alliance of amani, humans, high elves, castanics, baraka, and
popori) have most of their troops on this front.

Amani officers in the federation’s high command are torn. On the one
hand, the amani have a natural tendency for the attack, and they’d
dearly love to besiege an argon fortress for a change. But on the other
hand, defending Kaiator has immense symbolic significance for the
amani. It’s the first home they’ve had since casting off the chains of
slavery, and they’ll fight to their last drop of blood to keep it.

The swift swords of this amani warrior belie his muscled bulk.

TTH: How big of a role
does Kaiator have in the war? Do surrounding areas come to aid in the
defense?

DN: Kaiator
is the linchpin of the federation’s war effort, with supplies and
soldiers streaming through its iron gates on a daily basis. And when
the argons draw near to Kaiator’s walls, the federation is quick to
bolster its defenses. If the federation loses Kaiator, they’ll likely
lose the entirety of northern Shara.

TTH: Do they still hold a
hatred for Giants, having been enslaved by them for centuries? And are
there any giants still around?

DN: The
amani would burn with hatred for the giants, but there aren’t any left.
The remnants of the giants’ empire, if they exist at all, hide in
forgotten corners of the world. The amani have already had their
revenge. When they rose up in rebellion, it marked the end of the
giants' empire--and the end of many a cruel giant taskmaster.

TTH: What kind of gamer
do you think would be attracted to the amani race?

DN: For
starters, you’ve got to want to look ferocious. The males have a very
fearsome, draconic look to them, and the females have a
curvy-but-muscular appearance. Beyond that, the amani are a good choice
for players who like to be aggressive—but who temper that aggression
with a head for tactics.
