Oh boy, you’re presented with three options to put your stat / attribute points in The Elder Scrolls Online and you have no idea where to put your points. There three options are magicka, health, and stamina. All three sound equally good, but where do you put your points? Can you respec your points? Well, step one is don’t panic and the next step is to understand that you can’ make a mistake because you can respec your attribute points and everything helps everyone.

Respec Attribute / Stat Points

To respec your attribute points you’ll need to visit a shrine. The locations are as follows:

  • Aldmeri Dominion: Shrine to Auriel in Elden Root
  • Daggerfall Covenant: Shrine to Akatosh in Wayrest
  • Ebonheart Pact: Shrine to Kyne in Mourhould

These are some higher level zones, but shouldn’t be too difficult to get to. You can find the shrines in the major cities.

Magicka

Each point of magicka increases your Max Magicka by 10. At level 50, you will effectively have 500 additional magicka if you use every point. Magicka is used primarily by class skills and magic weapons. You would want to go for a magicka heavy build if you have your skills focused primarily around Magicka.

Health

Health effectively is just HP, so the more health you have the more damage you can take. You get 15 points of HP per point in health. This is good for dungeons and to some extent PvP. If you take all 50 points and put them into health, you will have 750 additional health. Not a bad amount of health!

Stamina

Stamina is used for weapon skills, specifically non-magic weapon skills. Stamina also affects sprinting. The more stamina you have the longer you can sprint for. You would get 500 extra points of Stamina if you put all 50 points into the attribute because you get 10 stamina for each point. I personally put my points here, only for Sprinting, but it’s very useful in strong non-magic builds.

Attribute Point Spread

Where do you put your points? Well, some people have said to spend them evenly and I mean, you can totally do that if you want to. I’m not going to stop you. Go ahead. The power gamer inside of me tells me though that you should put them all in one specific stat to get the most advantage and that stat probably shouldn’t be health unless you’re tanking or your guild needs you to for some encounter or something. My thought is that look at your skills, if you have mostly magicka skills then go all in to magicka. If you have mostly stamina skills, go all in into stamina. If you want to sprint more, go all into stamina.

While leveling, it doesn’t really make that much of a difference what you put your points into, you’ll probably have to reset them a bunch at later levels. So do whatever is easiest for you. Making leveling easier is more important than trying to conform to some set standard of your points have to go here or there.

If you’re having trouble finding where the attribute reset shrines are in the level 12+ zone in the city here, called rededication shrines. You can reset your attributes and skills here.
