Blizzard’s World of Warcraft is still losing subscribers, but paying players still number in the millions. Despite the game’s continued success, Blizzard’s next major MMOG, currently codenamed Project Titan, may not take the same subscription-based approach.

In a recent Activision Blizzard earnings call covered by CVG, Blizzard Entertainment co-founder Mike Morhaime confirmed the ongoing rework of the project, and indicated that it’s unlikely to be a subscription-based title as WoW currently is.

"We're in the process of selecting a new direction for the project and re-envisioning what we want the game to be," Morhaime said.

"While we can't talk about the details yet, it is unlikely to be a subscription-based MMORPG."

Next to nothing is currently known about Titan, but with any luck we'll get some answers at this year's BlizzCon event in November.
