In World of Warcraft there is nothing
that stirs excitement in players than the color orange. Any item
bearing the color orange in this game marks that item as legendary,
the pinnacle of glory for an item. However, legendary items are often
hard won and so the color orange has also become the sign of
prestigious, a sign of hard work, dedication and accomplishment.

Over the years more and more legendary
items have been introduced into the game. However, while they are all
impressive items, some manage to stick with us more than others.
Below you will find our picks for the top five World of Warcraft
legendary items of all time. We hope you enjoy!

Top Five World of Warcraft Legendary
Items of All Time

Shadowmourne

Introduced in Icecrown Citadel,
Shadowmourne is a two-handed axe that is available for use by
Warriors, Death Knights, and Paladins. Shadowmourne is only
obtainable after completing quests and obtaining fragments (much like
Atiesh) found inside the instance. Shadowmourne makes this list not
only because it looks great and was an epic weapon in its day, but
also because it is backed with some very cool lore. This legendary
item is still available in game and players can easily farm the
pieces required with a group of level 85 friends.

Warglaives of Azzinoth

Dropped from Illidan Stromrage, the
final boss in Black Temple, these dual glaives are probably one of
the most recognized weapons in game. Visually-striking, the
Warglaives of Azzinoth are available to Warriors, Rogues, and Death
Knights and required nothing except the death of Illidan (and a
little luck) to obtain. However, these blades were especially
valuable to the Rogue. Besides the epicness of this weapon and their
visual appeal, this weapon was the first legendary in the game to
come in a set. Not to mention that these Warglaives were wielded by
Illidan himself, more than enough reason in our books to make this
list.

Sulfuras, Hand of Ragnaros

This fiery two-handed mace of doom
heralds from the depths of the deadly Molten Core. Created by fusing
the Sulfuron Hammer with the Eye of Sulfuas, another item found
inside Molten Core, this was the weapon to have in vanilla
World of Warcraft. While Sulfuras made a reemergence into the game
with the introduction of Sulfuras, the Extinguished Hand in the
Firelands, there is still something special about taking the time to
create the original weapon.

Dragonwrath, Tarecgosa's Rest

Originating from within the Firelands,
this staff was a must have for casters in the Cataclysm expansion. In
order to obtain this weapon takes quite a bit of work with solo
quests and collecting items in a raid group. With a kick-ass visual
and epic stats, this staff is pretty bad-ass. If you needed any other
reason for this legendary to make the list, please note that this
item will turn you into a dragon. That is right folks...a dragon.
Dragonwrath, Tarecgosa's Rest wihtout a doubt wins and deserves a
slot on the list of all time best legendary items.

Thunderfury, Blessed Blade of the
Windseeker

Once wielded by Thunderaan, Prince of
Air, Thunderfury is the legendary of legendary item(at least in this
writer's humble opinion). Forged after places brought the broken
pieces of the talisman of elemental binding, better known as the
Bindings of the Windseeker. Before players fully realized the
potential of Thunderfury, many Hunters and Paladins picked up the
bindings. However, very soon its full awesomeness was realized and
this became the must have weapon for Warriors and melee DPS alike.
Thunderfury is visually appealing, has amazing stats, some pretty
cool lore and came from a time when World of Warcraft was fresh and
new. Without a doubt Thunderfury, even though it has long been out of
use, will be one of the legendary items that will never be forgotten.

That concludes our list of our picks
for the top five World of Warcraft legendary items of all time. Many
of them come from the first few expansions of the game and all of
them happen to be weapons. Does your own personal list match up with
ours or do you lean towards newer legendary items? Share your
