Aion®4.0: Dark Betrayal Offers Two New Player-Created Weapons

Contest-winning designs for Gunslinger and Songweaver classes now available exclusively in North America

ALISO VIEJO, Calif. (July 31, 2013) – NCSOFT ®, the world’s premier publisher and developer of massively multiplayer online games (MMOs), today announced the availability in North America of two new player-created weapons for Aion 4.0: Dark Betrayal. The weapons, designed for the new Gunslinger and Songweaver classes, respectively, include Kippie’s Nightmare, a pistol, and the Flutterlight Sonata, a butterfly-inspired harp. Both weapons can be purchased in-game starting today in the Black Cloud Marketplace.

Concept designs for the weapons were selected from hundreds of entries in Aion’s “Leave Your Legacy” contest that launched globally last October asking players to submit their original designs for Gunslinger and Songweaver weapons. Only two of the submissions from North America were ultimately chosen by the development team to be created in the game.

Liiga Smilshkalne, also known as Rakesh from the Israphel server, submitted the winning design for the Gunslinger weapon, which she originally called the Mookie Gun.

“The idea for the Mookie Gun sprouted from late-night chattering with a friend and legion mate Aedus over the Leave Your Legacy announcement. That somehow, somewhere led to the idea of a Mookie Gun, which absolutely stuck,” Smilshkalne said at the time her design was selected. “The rest of it came naturally in the wee hours of the morning with the aid of a large cup of coffee.”

Sergio Kishino, also known as Seey on the Tiamat server, came up with the winning design for the Songweaver weapon. He said his inspiration came when he lost Internet access for a few days in late December and started to draw, first creating an “outfit inspired by Guardian Commander and Kahrun, with a blue butterfly and golden details,” then creating a weapon “with the same concept.”

Both winning creators received five of their weapon designs prior to today’s in-game availability as an exclusive reward. For more information about Aion and Aion 4.0: Dark Betrayal, or to view art of the new weapons, go to www.aiononline.com.
