I had a quick chat with Spacetime Studio's Adrian Glover and Greg Mueller, Assistant General Managers, about the now live Rage of the Ren'gol expansion. The expansion is rather large and includes a lot of interesting mechanics and new features into the game. The most important feature that players should be aware of today is the need to rebuild Garetta, which requires completing the Fortification of Garetta event. Garetta is the expansion hub and the event must be played to completion by the entire server before the expansion content is unlocked.

Arcane Legends is a free-to-play mobile MMO developed by Spacetime Studios. It's available on PC (via Chrome Web Store), Android, and iOS. In addition to this update, a new major feature to allow players to purchase a character starting at level 41 is now available as well, to help new players get a head start on reaching the endgame content.

What's New in Rage of the Ren'gol

The big headline additon is three new dungeons (Glintstone Caverns, Cryogem Mines, and the Gnomish Ruins). Elite versions of these maps won't be in at launch, but will be in at some point in the future.

The level cap is now level 46 and you can gear a full set of Legendary gear (the Orcslaying set) in Garetta once it has been unlocked. Additionally, new crates are in the store, and two new currencies are in the game. The first is the Garetta Token which is used for gear and other items and are assigned during the event. Crate tokens (obtained from crates) can be turned in for pets, belts (which are also new in this expansion), and mythic gear along with arcane items. Orc Tags are also a new currency, you obtain them from daily quests, which can be turned in for gear, pets, and crafting materials.

As mentioned, belts are in the game now as an additional gear item. Jewels have also been introduced. Jewels work similar to gems, but there are some changes. First, gems are gone. You can keep what you have, but you can't make more. Jewels replace the entire gem system, but gems do stay around. Jewels have 8 levels and can be combined to "level up" through crafting. Cracked Jewels drop from mobs instead of essences and these can be combined to level up the jewel. Jewels can require specific item level before they can be affixed and there are more stats on Jewels than on gems. Jewels are removable from gear just at the cost of gold.

Garetta Fortification Event

You can get to Garetta from the Ydra Forest dungeon map, all you have to do is head left and follow the signs for Garetta. Once there, you'll be given an item based on your class (Mining Pick for Rogues, Hammer & Chisel for Sorcerors, and an Axe for Warriors) and sent out into the world to collect materials. Once you've obtained your tool in Garetta you just simply have to go to any dungeon in Dead City and beyond to find special material nodes laying around. Everyone in a party will harvest materials for the group, which is neccessary to craft more building supplies to turn in.

The top 100 contributors get their name affixed to a statue in the center of Garetta and once the event concludes, you'll be able to turn in your tokens for some sweet rewards, like the first ever belts in the game.

That's pretty much all the awesome stuff in the latest expansion. You can download the game on your mobile phone store of choice and read about all the official details over on the forums.
