Betas are good for one thing and that’s figuring out what needs to be fixed and improved in your game. Mechanist Games recently posted a new developer journal detailing one designer’s quest to improve the City of Steam UI hotbar. Hey, it may not sound like much in the grand scheme of things, but UIs are important, and there’s a reason that people tend to frequent third-party UI sites. One of the main reasons being that the original UIs, even something as simple as hotbar design, can often lead to a painful gaming experience if put together poorly.

The GUI overhaul takes a much bulkier hotbar and streamlines it, making it more compact and a bit slicker and even adding in an emotes button to make those quick emoting actions...or reactions.

This is just one item discussed, but the devs did tease that they are considering making a few tweaks to other elements in the future so stay tuned for that. Visit the City of Steam website to learn more.
