Massive Battle Erupts in EVE on Eve of Rubicon 1.1 Release

Posted Tue, Jan 28, 2014 by Martuk

Today is another fine example of why you need a solid accountant on your corporation staff in EVE Online. Earlier today an alliance in the N3 coalition made up of Pandemic Legion, Nulli Secunda, Insdious Empire and various other smaller groups messed up and missed a payment for the system that Pandemic Legion was staging and storing its fleets in. Oops. The missed payment caused sov to drop across the system, leaving the stations open for capture.

Never ones to pass up an opportunity to bloody a rivals nose or to kick them in the happy sac, CFC, an alliance comprised of Goonswarm Federation, Razor Alliance, Black Legion and the Initiative as well as the Russian Coalition comprised of Solar Fleet, Darkness of Despair and Against ALL Authorities, captured the station, igniting a full scale massive battle in the region as N3 scrambled to retake the station.

Pandemic scrambled a fleet of carriers, supercarriers, and titans dubbed “the Wrecking Ball.” CFC and Russian forces responded with their own fleet of Dominixes, Dreadnaughts and Titans. The battle rages even now and you can watch it via Twitch. According to a CCP email sent out earlier today, over 8 Titans had already been destroyed, costing over 1 trillion ISK.

EVE Online’s Rubicon 1.1 update is scheduled to release tomorrow morning to deliver new Sisters of EVE reinforcements and UI tweaks along with lots of other little things. Let’s just hope that there’s a winner before then. I’m sure downtime bringing a premature end to this battle would be bad for everyone, especially CCP.
