Ship Balance and Sensor Changes Coming with EVE: Odyssey
EVE Online is poised to launch its 19th free expansion tomorrow with the deployment of Odyssey. On the eve of the expansions release, CCP has rolled out a pair of new dev blogs to detail changes to the sensor overlay along with a number of revamps for EVEs ships. 40 ships in total will be undergoing a significant revamp to help mix things up in the universal fight for supremacy.
Along with the new ship revamps, CCP will be making some changes to the sensor overlay to improve exploration and make scanning more user-friendly. This also comes with some other changes to the game to help integrate the new functionality. Part of this will include the new probe changes as well as some other things.
In order to integrate this functionality smoothly into the existing tools, we've made a number of decisions that change elements of EVE. We have, for example, changed the gate-jump process to include an extra, non-blocking step: the overlay running a quick scan sweep in the new system to give you a glimpse of what might be hiding in deep space. We've changed the way that information about new sites appearing in a system can be accessed, which is particularly relevant in wormhole space. We have, in conjunction with Team Superfriends and as a side-effect of other work, made it harder to rapidly determine exactly what classes of site are present in a given system.
