Demon Hunters are a hero class that will be introduced in Patch 7.0 World of Warcraft: Legion. Made up of elite Elves, Demon Hunters are disciples of the notorious Illidan Stormrage. Embracing both fel and other chaotic magics, Demon Hunters have always been feared, outcast, and abhorred. However, with the Burning Legion once again on our doorstep, things are about to change. Now, with the Burning Legion on our doorstep, accepting the help of the Demon Hunters may be this world's only hope for survival.

Current Expansion: Warlords of Draenor

Choosing the Demon Hunter

The Demon Hunter a hybrid class that is able to fulfill two distinct in-game roles: tanking and melee damage dealer. Unlike most other melee classes who can tank, the Demon Hunter does not wear heavy armor. Instead, they capitalize on speed and mobility to take out their enemies and dodge attacks. To enhance their senses, Demon Hunters ritually blind themselves to obtain a spectral sight that makes them a formidable foe that can detect even hidden enemies.

As mentioned above, the Demon Hunter is all about mobility and their armor choice reflects that. Even though this class is able to tank, they still outfit themselves in Cloth and Leather. When it comes to weapons, this class is notorious for its use of Warglaives. However, the Demon Hunter can also use the following weapons:

  • Daggers
  • Fist Weapons
  • One-Handed Axes
  • One-Handed Maces
  • One-Handed Swords

As with all other classes, Demon Hunters are available to both factions. However, your race choices are rather limited. Being an Elf himself, Illidan chose only those of Elvish blood to be trained as his disciples. This means that this class is limited to Night Elves and Blood Elves. This may change in the future.

Demon Hunters are a hero class, like the Death Knight. This means they will start off at a higher level than other classes and also have their very own starting zone.

Demon Hunter Core Abilities

Each Demon Hunter will come equipped with a set of abilities that are common to the class. These abilities will define the class. In other words, these abilities will be what make the Demon Hunter a Demon Hunter. Currently, we know little about what these abilities will be or how they will manifest in game. Some examples of core abilities may be:

  • Fel Rush – Rush forward, dealing damage to all enemies in your path. Generates 40 Fury.
  • Eye Beam – Blasts the target and any nearby enemies with Fire damage.
  • Spectral Sight – Allows you to see enemies through physical barriers, even those that are stealthed and invisible.
  • Double Jump – The Demon Hunter uses their extreme agility to jump twice in a row allowing them to get to places that other classes may not be able to.

More information about the talents and abilities of this class should become available as the Legion expansion draws closer.

Demon Hunter Resources

Demon Hunters will rely on Fury to fuel their attacks. As with most things about the Demon Hunter, how this resource works remains uncertain. Lending even more mystery to Fury is that fact that it is a new resource that no other class uses. It seems that it will work much like Warrior Rage, building up as the Demon Hunter deals and takes damage.

Demon Hunter Specializations

Each Demon Hunter will have two specializations: Havoc (Melee DPS) and Vengeance (Tanking). Havoc will make use of the Demon Hunter's chaotic energies to inflict havoc on enemies. Vengeance will allow the Demon Hunter to gather their powers to resist damage and fuel attacks.

A class with only two specializations is very unusual. It seems that a third specialization just didn't seem to fit. Developers have revealed that if they had to do it over again, more classes would only have 2 specs just like the Demon Hunter.
