A lot is changing in the world of Guild Wars 2 as each week we find out something new and exciting from the developers over at ArenaNet. This week we take a look at some of the topics that are currently going on in the community and attempt to explore some of the subjects that have people talking. Right now were looking at the miniature market, the long wait until GW2 finally hits the shelves, and other hot topics in the Guild Wars 2 world.
Miniature Evil
The big topic in the Guild Wars community this week is miniatures. The reason why is simple. You have a limited quantity of items that take years to produce that have been stockpiled by vast numbers of players for a long period of time. You also have a large amount of inflated gold stockpiled by players as well. On top of that, you have the Hall of Monuments which now awards players with the OH MY GOSH amount of rewards in Guild Wars 2. Mix all of that together and you have trouble brewing.
Banks full of minis are being burned in the hall as we speak.
You need miniatures, of different rarities, up to a total of 50 to get all of the points from the Monument of Devotion. There are over 100 available miniatures in the game, so getting 50 different ones isnt all that difficult as long as you have the gold to back the purchases. Yet, we run into a major problem, and thats once a miniature is used at the HoM then its forever bound to that account. You can trade it to another for cosmetic appearance, but they cant bind it to their monument.
The current supply of miniatures is dwindling fast while demand is rising more and more as each day passes. Why is the supply dropping so fast? Well, it takes one year of character age to get one miniature, outside of the few available from promotional campaigns or as rare drops in the game. So they are not something you can go out and actively farm in mass quantities to match the demand.
I would argue that ArenaNet should add more miniatures into GW available for those to farm as drops or within chests but honestly, should it be made easier to snag up fifty miniatures when GW has historically made most titles and in game achievements difficult and time consuming? On one hand its not fair to get the points youll essentially need to drop a massive amount of gold to get enough minis to fulfill the Hall of Monuments desires while on the other hand there should be some challenge to get the good rewards.
Ill let you come to our forums and share your opinion on the subject, but I myself think that a few more in-game obtainable miniatures would go a long way in making the lives easier for those collecting like mad right now.
One thing in this entire story that makes me happy to know is that ArenaNet did not release some kind of insane Hall of Monuments pack for easy points to get some extra cash from players. We all know that if they did then theyd have gotten a ton of purchases but it would also drive many potential players away who are already fearing what GW2s microtransaction system will be like.
Massive Giveaway
To celebrate Guild Wars 2 hitting 100,000 fans on Facebook ArenaNet will be giving away lots of cool stuff this Friday, October 22nd. To participate all you need to do is click here to get the rules then show up at the appointed time and reply to the note as fast as you can. It seems theyll be giving the items on a first come first serve basis which means youll have to be fast to snag the loot.
I personally think it should be more of a raffle, but there is a bit more gratification if youre one of the lucky ones who post first.
Release Date Woes
An investor report for NCSoft was recently released which started a rumor that GW2 will not be hitting shelves until Q4 of 2011 or Q1 of 2012. Thats an awful long time away. The truth of the matter though is that the investor report only indicates a release in 2011 with no specific information. Most currently theorize that we can expect to see GW2 sometime in Q1 or Q2 in 2012, however, its all theory at this point and there is nothing set in stone.
What are you going to do until GW2 releases? Come to the Ten Ton Hammer community forums and share your thoughts on the long wait.
