If you were hoping to get into this weekend’s beta testing phase for Guild Wars 2 but held off on pre-ordering, you’ll have to get your copy and pre-order key from somewhere other than ArenaNet. The Guild Wars 2 developer announced via Facebook that they have sold out of digital distribution keys in North America.

I know what you're thinking. How can you sell out of digital keys? Here's the reason. The keys were limited to make sure there is enough capacity for players going into the beta weekend. A move that allows the devs to work out any kinks with the game as more and more people come online and then expand the capacity from there.

Luckily, there are still some keys available through other retailers such as GameStop and Best Buy if you're hoping to grab one a little earlier. ArenaNet has also stated that more capacity will likely be made available following the initial crunch of the weekend.

We have sold out of keys for digital distribution in North America. GameStop and Best Buy still have stock available.

We limit sales to ensure we have enough capacity for our customers. We're likely to have capacity available after the initial crunch at the start of the weekend. Players who purchase when we're able to resume digital sales at buy.guildwars2.com will still be able to play for the remainder of the weekend. ~RB2
