The mesmer can make use of Illusion magic to aid them in combat. The two types of Illusions, Clones and Phantasms, can be wielded against enemies, each capable of summoning illusions to aid the mesmer. The mesmer also possesses magic such as Shattering, which allows them to shatter an illusion for a number of secondary effects capable of either dealing damage, stunning or dazing confusing enemies and gaining a beneficial reflective barrier.
You can learn more about the mesmer on the Guild Wars 2 website and via a new interview with Game Informer.

There is an error in this article:
The mesmer also possesses magic such as Shattering, which allows them to shatter an illusion for a number of secondary effects capable of either dealing damage, stunning or dazing enemies and gaining a beneficial reflective barrier.
The dazing part isnt mentioned in the official mesmer article and instead it says confusion wich is a mechanic that damages enemies when they use abilities and causes more damage the more confused they are.
entirely diffrent then being dazed like for instance WoW
Thanks for pointing that out. It appears that the final website version was tweaked slightly from our advanced copy. I'll make the adjustment. Thanks again for the heads up.
