New Guild Wars 2 Blogs Reveal Asura Environments and Mr. Sparkles

Posted Tue, Sep 13, 2011 by Martuk

Two more stories have surfaced for Guild Wars 2’s Asura Week. The first from ArenaNet's Lore Designer Jeff Grubb, who took some time to explain the origins of Mr. Sparkles, one of the original tales of lore that has managed to hang on since early development. Who is Mr. Sparkles you ask? Mr. Sparkles isn’t so much a who as a what, so read up and find out all about it.

The second is a new blog from Senior Concept Artist Matt Barrett, who talks about the environmental design of the asura, which draws on some real-world inspirations such as Hindu temples. The blog contains several examples of Barrett’s concept art for asura architecture and how he evolved the design.

I can truly say that the only thing players are interested in at this point in the dev process is an open beta with no NDA, these lore posts are great AFTER the game is launched so we can make the connection between lore and the places we can visit in game. Teasing the community isn't going to build any bigger of a fan base so just release a beta already and stop teasing.

Allergic to hype? There’s been plenty of it where Guild Wars 2 is concerned, causing hype-allergy sufferers symptoms like cynicism, skepticism, and outright hating. Consider this article your dose of antihistamine. (The non-drowsy kind, of course.)
