Ambitious things can happen when you put a group of industry veterans together and that’s what led to the formation of Caustic Ideas, a new independent game development studio founded by industry veterans from id Software, LucasArts, EA and Rainbow Studios.

The new studio describes itself as, “a new independent studio made up of industry veterans who were sick and tired of the status quo.” The crew helming the new studio have some ambitious ideas on where they want to take the massively multiplayer online gaming genre (MMOG), namely with a new project called Intrepid Void, a cross-platform civilization building MMOG with a focus on galactic domination. The planned development of the game includes massive space battles, space pirates, glorious lasers and massive explosions. How can you go wrong with that combination?

In order to achieve their ambitious goals, the developers need some help funding the project and have launched a new Kickstarter Project to try and help raise development funds. The target goal is to raise $20,000 by October 27th, 2011. Head over to their Kickstarter page and give the game a look. If you like what you see, the donation process is self-explanatory.

You can visit the Caustic Ideas official website to learn more about the new studio. The video embed of the Intrepid Void Kickstarter presentation is available after the break.
