INTRODUCTION

A land frozen by the ancient, lingering evils of Morgoth, and
the region where Arvedui, the last king of Arnor, met his end while
fleeing from the Witch-King of Angmar, the Ice Bay of Forochel is known
for its inhospitability. The people are as strange, unforgiving and
cold as the landscape, the elk are just as dangerous as the
sabre-toothed cats, and even the water can kill the unwary adventurer.
This frigid, hostile envionment lies just north of Evendim, separated
by a ridge of forbidding alpine crags. The few settlements here (aside
from the old, frozen fortifications built by outsiders) are constructed
of snow, ice, uncut timbers from the south, mammoth hides and giant
tusks rather than stone, lining the southern rim of the glacial bay.
The Lossoth people
who dwell in these settlements glide around on the ice with skates made
of bone, push sleighs and sledges rather than wheeled carts, and use
mammoths as their preferred beasts of burden.

Introduced to the Lord of the Rings Online with Volume 1, Book
13, Forochel is one of the "newer" areas of Eriador. It lies well off
the beaten path, largely unconnected to the path of the Fellowship of
the Ring except for its ties to Volume 1 Book 13. Much of the content
here is solo-oriented, with only a few chain-end quests requiring a
group to complete, and is geared for the 44 - 50 level range, covering
the same level range as Eregion. While the remote
location and overlapping level range may make the area seem extraneous
or redundant, the quests here are rather more densely-packed than in
Misty Mountains and require significantly less empty travel time, and
heading here in the the low-40s range speeds you over the low-40s
"hump."
