PvMP AS A LORE-MASTER

style="border: 0px solid ; width: 240px; height: 417px; float: left;"
alt="Lore-master in Ettenmoors"
src="http://www.tentonhammer.com/image/view/92879">

"They
stole all the honey!? LET'S KILL EM ALL!"

Lore-masters have a sort of confusing position in the
Ettenmoors. Despite being arguably the squishiest class in the game, in
the 'Moors they are feared and hated by the creeps. So much of the
stuff that creeps do to win fights simply doesn't work against the
Lore-master. The creeps know this, and it fills them with rue.

Warg
Stalkers, for instance, can't catch a break against a Lore-master. Sign
of Power: Vigilance counters the warg's stealth, and Sign of Power:
Righteousness prevents the warg's Pounce from doing what it does on
everyone else.

Uruk Blackarrows also hate Lore-masters. Wind-Lore
cuts their ranged damage in half, and the big fire damage-over-time
from Flaming Arrow is almost meaningless against a Proof Against All
Ills-traited Leechcraft.

Most creep classes bear a grudge against
the Lore-master. Charging Reavers can be partially stymied by Sticky
Tar. Any of the orc or uruk classes can be taken out of a fight with
mezzes and roots. Ents Go To War can wreak havoc on a group of creeps
standing close together. Warleaders and Defilers can be flummoxed by
draining their power, preventing other creeps from getting heals.
Pretty much anything most creeps can throw at a freep can be countered
by a Lore-master, at least to some degree.

Weavers, however, present a bigger threat. Lore-masters don't
have a counter for
poison. The Weaver is the creep counterpart to the freep Lore-master,
with all sorts of dirty crowd-control tricks and vicious
damage-over-time skills. And pets. Swarms of baby pets. On the plus
side, Blinding Flash and Herb-Lore work just fine against spiders. So
does fire.

Many Lore-masters will go heavy on Master of Nature's
Fury traits for running in the Ettenmoors. Crowd-control is only
partially effective against intelligent, potion-equipped, living
players
- it can catch the greenies off-guard, but the experienced, ranked
creeps will be able to shrug off most mezzes and roots before things
get too dangerous. Generally, mezzes are best used to delay retreating
hit-and-run creeps just long enough for allies to target them and take
them out. They can't be counted on for long-term crowd-control like
they can in PvE, so the shortened duration from multiple Master of
Nature's Fury traits isn't that big a deal. The red trait line allows
the Lore-master to hit hard with big fire, and sometimes the best
defence is a strong offence.

Proof
Against All Ills and Dunedain Learning, both from the Keeper of Animals
line, are life-savers in the 'Moors, particularly in fights involving a
lot of Warg Stalkers and Uruk Blackarrows. Keeping core raid members
stun-immune by spamming Sign of Power: Righteousness prevents warg
pounces from jeopardizing the entire raid, and Leechcraft usable
in-combat can prevent defeat from massive Flaming Arrow DOTs.

As
far as pets go, bear tanking is essentially useless in the 'Moors, and
birds are usually to weak to be particularly valuable companions. Not
many PvMP-spec Lore-masters are going to want to go 5-deep in Keeper of
Animals to get the bog-lurker companion. That leaves the cats, which is
just fine. Cats are tough, they hit hard and they have powerful stealth
attacks and area-effect attacks. Plus, it's occasionally hilarious to
see a big husky warg being mauled by an angry kitty-cat.
