BioWare on Mass Effect MMO: "You Never Know"

Updated Sat, Oct 01, 2011 by Martuk

Speaking with Industry Gamers, BioWare’s dynamic doctor duo expressed interest in the possibility of a Mass Effect MMO. When asked about the possibility of Mass Effect making its way to the MMO audience Zeschuk responded, "You never know." He went on to explain that BioWare’s current focus is on the successful launch of Star Wars: The Old Republic, but once that and some of the developer’s other projects like Mass Effect 3 are out the gate, BioWare will be taking a fresh look at the market.

It's one of the nice things about having these properties in our back pocket... If we want to use something we own as a source for a game, it's easy to do. So yeah, you never know. We've got this giant product to launch, but once that's done we'll consider next steps."

Earlier this year in an interview with Game Informer, Mass Effect 3 Executive Producer Casey Hudson told the gaming magazine that, "A lot of people say that they want to see an MMO, I think that kind of makes sense for this universe.”

Mass Effect as an MMORPG would directly compete with The Old Republic in the sci-fi MMORPG category. Better if they went with Jade Empire!

I don't know for sure. But I have to admit the PVP would be intense.

I think that it would make an excellent MMO. You have an amazing game world with infinite possibilities. I don't think it would compete with Star Wars: The Old Republic because it's dealing with two completely different worlds. While Star Wars has the basic Jedi/Sith thing going on with other different groups, Mass Effect would let you choose from far more and you could feel mire like a small piece of one huge universe.
