Are you one of those people that tend to get completely freaked out by spiders? Well imagine now that there is a spider coming after you only its hundreds of feet tall, made of metal, and armed to the teeth with things that bite a lot harder than fangs. MechWarrior Online isn’t doing its players with Arachnophobia any favors with the addition of its new Spider Mech, an agile new light mech with eight jumpjets and an unmatched turning radius to make life difficult and traumatizing for heavy mech pilots.
In addition to the new Spider Mech death machine, MechWarrior Online will also be hosting its first Double XP event this weekend. The event is set to kick off on Friday, January 18th and conclude on Monday, January 21st. The Double XP bonus will also stack with premium time bonuses, boosters and Founder’s benefits for those of you looking for an even bigger boost.
“After a much-needed break over the holidays, we’re raring to go with exciting 2013 content updates,” said Bryan Ekman, creative director, Piranha Games. “The addition of community-focused features such as the Double XP event, new Mechs and performance tweaks let’s us kickoff the New Year in a big way. This is just the beginning of a huge year for MechWarrior fans.”
So grab some caffeine and hunker down for a weekend of bonus XP and mechanized carnage.

More distractions from the fact that the game is dying:
-They can't fix the netcode, so light mechs are still basically impossible to hit with unguided weapons
-ECM completely nullifies guided weapons, and four of the five mechs allowed to have it are... light
-The Death's Knell is a truly awful mech; buy it and you are just target practice for other players
-There is only 1 game mode, Capture the Flag, with an option for either 2 or 5 flags; what is this, summer camp?
-They completely ignored their beta testers
Whoever is running the show at PGI is obviously trying to bias the game in favor of their preferred play style, and it has ruined the game. The sooner this game dies, the sooner someone competent will make a new Mechwarrior game.
