Today, while staring at the Blizzard forums, I found a post that sort of seemed like a fist hitting my stomach out of nowhere - Bashiok is leaving Blizzard. Bashiok has been a WoW community manager since the dawn of time, formally known as Drysc, who went off to work on Diablo 3 some, before returning to WoW. Now, he's departing, heading off to the unkown, and the WoW community will have a rather large hole that needs to be filled. Bashiok is notable, in a lot of ways, as one of the many public faces of Blizzard and one of the personalities that are always available to comment on various things on the forums and Twitter.

It's worth noting that as far as a public face is concerned, he openly admits it's not Blizzard, it's him, as he's willingly walking away from his post. I'm sure everyone here at Ten Ton Hammer wishes him the best wishes possible moving on to his next challenges in life.

Bashiok was one of the very original community managers way back when WoW wasn't even released, it was a concept that Blizzard fans had on the corner of their radar. Everyone assumed that it might maybe get as many subs as Everquest, if it was lucky, but at the time no one knew it was going to take off like it did. He's been around ever since, manning the forums in different capacities. I have faint memories of back then, but I do know that WoW's success took even me by surprise, especially as I was trying to login.

Oh and one last note, the forum thread with his announcement, is actually quite nice and friendly and makes me proud that the community can come together in such a nice way to wish their farewells.

This news comes as WoW prepares to unveil it's latest expansion at Gamescom.
