The first Adventure expansion for Hearthstone went live today (22/07/2014) with the release of Curse of Naxxramas.  This expansion brings with it a whole new mode of play called adventure mode as well as many new and interesting cards.  While we will be posting guides to each of the 5 wings of the adventure mode as they are released, this guide covers the basic elements of the expansion.

How to access Curse of Naxxramas

Getting to the new Curse of Naxxramas content is pretty straight forward.  Simply go to the new “solo play” area, in this area you will find several new options and some relocated options.

Once in the Solo Play area you will see where Practice Mode has been relocated as well as the new Naxxramas area.  The Practice menu lets you pick from Normal or Expert mode, just as it did from the main menu before.

The new Naxxramas menu lets you pick from three options: Normal, Class Challenge, or Heroic.  To access Naxxramas you need to have fully unlocked all of the 9 classes in the game, meaning you will have to get them to level 10.

To access class challenges you need to defeat the various wings of Naxxramas.  To access Heroic mode you need to defeat each of the wings in normal mode to be able to try that wing in heroic mode.

Curse of Naxxrammas Wings and Bosses

There are five wings in Curse of Naxxramas, just as there were in the World of Warcraft raid that this adventure expansion is based on.  Each wing contains several bosses and are as follows:

Arachnid Quarter:

  • Anub’Rekhan
  • Grand Widow Faerlina
  • Maexxna

Plague Quarter:

  • Noth the Plaguebringer
  • Heigan the Unclean
  • Loatheb

Military Quarter:

  • Razuvious
  • Gothik
  • Rivendare

Construct Quarter:

  • Patchwerk
  • Grobbulus
  • Gluth
  • Thaddius

Frostwyrm Lair:

  • Sapphiron
  • Kel’Thuzad

Price to Access the Expansion

The first wing is free to access as long as you do so during the launch event, which is to last about a month.  After that each wing will cost you either gold or real world currency.

  • If you are paying with gold, each wing will cost 700 gold to access.
  • If you choose to pay with real world currency each wing will cost $6.99 US.  There are bundled deals for multiple wings if you are using real world currency that bring the total price down to $19.99 US for all 5 wings if you got the first wing for free during the launch event.

You can purchase the wings through the store option in the game, which has been changed to display an option to purchase either Cards or Adventure.

NOTE: It is important to note that purchasing all the wings does not grant you access to them immediately.  You will still need to wait for each one to be released.  They will be released 1 new wing per week until all 5 are available.

Curse of Naxxramas Guides

Each wing of the adventure will get its own guide and be listed here shortly after its release.  Each guide looks at the various bosses found there, explinations of strategies to use to defeat them, and the cards that you can earn by defeating them.
