That Other Convention
RPG Vault wraps up its coverage from Austin Games Conference... you know, that other convention that easily had five times the substance of BlizzCon but got a fraction of the coverage.
"The final session I took in was the most purely entertaining. Called MMO Rant, it was led by Gordon Walton, who dubbed himself "old and bitter", with fellow consultant Jessica Mulligan (also old and bitter), Meridian 59's Brian Green ("middle-aged and bitter") and Mythic's Jeff Hickman ("young and bitter!") joining in. All four had great fun, as did the audience, and beneath the merriment, very important points were made. To cite only a couple, one was that the industry needs to move more rapidly from talking about innovation to taking risks by trying new things, and a related one was that it's easy but counter-productive to belittle rather than celebrate attempts to do something different. Green led the way in the laughter category with a fan letter to Stephen King, written from the "I'm a fan so you should do what I say" point of view."
