Clan of Conan
Q: What is the new combat system in “Age of Conan?”
A:
All combat is in real time. Players can aim their attacks, as opposed to just clicking on an enemy and clicking ability buttons. Players’ positioning will make a difference as they aim their weapon at an opponent’s arm or leg. There are some icons to click, as in other MMOGs, but in addition to that, you control your direction and area of attack through keystrokes or a gamepad. The system uses combination attacks, which can combine up to five strings of special moves.

Q: How many directions can you attack in?
A:
There are six different directional attacks: upper left, lower left, upper right, lower right, overhead thrust and straight thrust.

Q: Do ranged attacks work the same way as melee attacks?
A:
Ranged attacks also use a new combat system. While it may not be identical to melee attacks, you still need to string the bow, aim and fire manually as opposed to hitting an “auto-fire” button. You are presented with an over-the-shoulder view, and have to take aim with your mouse.

Q: Is there mounted combat?
A:
Yes. Mounted combat is available in the game, and offers advantages in some situations. From the back of your mount, you can gain speed, and barrel into your enemies at full force, causing very high damage. It isn’t easy to master, but a skilled mounted combatant is very lethal.

Q: What kind of mounts are available?
A:
Among the various mounts, there are horses, rhinos and mammoths.

Q: How do dodges or blocks work?
A:
Dodging and blocking are passive skills your character learns as they level up. They are performed automatically during combat. In addition to that though, you can use the terrain and objects in the world as cover. There is also "active blocking" which enables the player to target a side they want to defend more.

Q: Is there raiding in the game?
A:
Yes. There are many end-level raids which take puzzle solving as well as force to complete.

Q: How do you direct, or target, your attacks?
A:
You still need to aim and target, but not like in other games. You need to face your opponent, make sure you are within striking distance, and perform your attack. This also means that a wide sweep while amidst many opponents can hit many enemies.

Q: Can you queue your attacks?
A:
Some attacks can be queued, but your basic weapon attacks cannot be queued.
Links:
Q: What happens when you die?
A:
You have a choice to resurrect at the last visited resurrection point, or by player resurrection.

Q: What about queues and macros?
A:
There are no combat macros in the game. Some abilities are able to be queued however, so that you’ll perform your next ability right after you complete your current ability. This is completely optional, however.
