Ten Ton Hammer's Class Guides - Priest

Quests generally provide some of the best weapons and armour you are going to find, other than through high level instances and raids. Quests also provide almost as much experience as actually killing all the mobs to complete the quests, therefore I strongly suggest that you work towards completing quests rather than just killing things.

Most quests are generic to a faction (ie: horde or alliance), however there are several racial quests and class quests so they will be different from other characters that you adventure with.

Level 1-10 Priest Quests

For the very low levels almost all characters of a set race start with and have access to the same basic quests. This covers the starting areas and all the quests are just to get you familiar with the game. Do the quests!!! They will show you around the land and doing one quest often opens up a second quest, and then a third from the same NPC, with greater rewards each time.

The very early level quests ( level 1-8 ) are all around your starting point. There are enough to keep you busy and get you to level 8. When you first appear in the game you should search out an NPC close to you that has a glowing gold exclamation point (!) over their head. Once you complete the quest, that NPC or some other NPC (in the case of delivery type quests) will have a glowing gold question mark (?) over their head. This makes it easy to tell who to visit to finish your quest. The NPC will also show up on your mini map as a small gold dot, to make them easier to find when finishing a quest.

At level 10 you will get a quest from your trainer to travel to the capital city for your race. As a reward for these race specific quests you will get your first race-specific priest spell: Touch of Weakness (Undead), Hex of Weakness (Trolls), Desperate Prayer (humans and dwarves), Starshards (night elves), and Symbol of Hope (Draenei).

Level 11-20 Priest Quests

At level 20 you will get a quest from your trainer in your capital city to get the second spell for your race. The spell will be: Devouring Plague (Undead), Shadowguard (Trolls), Feedback (Humans), Fear Ward (Dwarves and Draenei), Elune's Grace (Night Elves). It is important to ensure you visit your capital city at this level as there will be no warning to go and see them from any other trainer (if you happen to be in a different area).

Level 21-30 Priest Quests

Seal of Wrynn

While this is not specifically a Priest only quest, the end reward is very good having +Int, +Stam and + Spirit. The quest chain to get this ring starts with the "An Unsent Letter" quest that drops from Vancleef in the Deadmines. After many subsequest quests in the chain you will get the "An Audience with the King" Quest. By the time you can complete this quest you will likely be into the late 20's.

The ring is still very good for the level:

Seal of Wrynn

Finger

+3 Strength

+3 Agility

+4 Stamina

+4 Intellect

+3 Spirit

Level 31-40 Priest Quests

While not specific to Priests alone the following is very useful in this level range. Anpu of
Grimhorn Tribe on server
Draenor sent in the following, and I have to aggre that I spent a ton of time in STV at that level.

I love my undead priest that I play on Draenor. He's probably my favorite
character. And for any horde character lvl 31-40 the best place to Quest is
definitely Stanglethorn Vale (AKA STV) you can fly throught the Q's there. Of course start with the
hunting quests from the camp by the river (tigers panthers and raptors) and
be sure to have the ppage quest too. as you go along the pages will drop for
you, at the end any leftover ones you can buy from the Auction House (AH).
Make sure as you go to frequent South of Grom'Gol at Booty Bay. In the
tavern near the bank there are a lot of quests including some very rewarding
chains. There are multiple quests that require you to kill the same things
or get things from the particular Mobs another quest askes you to kill. Off
the top of my head I think of the second Raptor Mastery quest and a Quest in
Grom'Gol I think it is In Defense of Grom'Gol you have to kill the same type
of raptors. And again with the raptors you will later need Raptor tusks or
horns. Just keep an eye out and ask around. Also there are a lot of quests
that involve the Trolls like Bloody Bone Necklaces and the Troll Tusks. Make
sure to do those together if you don't you'll kick your self when you find
yourself farming them for hours on end (side note: there are 2 troll
villages close to one another, both ruins. Use both, hit one then another.
You can solo bother if you pull the mob's carefully.

Level 41-50 Priest Quests

Cenarion Aid

At level 50 you gain access to a Priest only quest called Cenarion Aid. The quest starts a 4 part quest chain and will likely take a little while to complete, I didn't complete the chain until level 54.

The quest becomes available from your priest trainer as soon as you hit level 50. He will let you know that the Cenarion cirlce is need of aid and that you should seek out Ogtinc in Azshara. Ogtinc is located northeast of the ruins of Eldarath at location 42,42 (if you have a map Mod).

When you reach him he asks that you find 4 healthy courser glands for him and return. These are failry easy to find off of the wandering courses in the zone. There are several large heards of them to the north and the north east of Ogtinc. The drop rate is low on them though, so it will take a little while to get all 4. Once done, return to Ogtinc.

He will now ask that you find him an ichor of undeath and lets you know that they can be found by killing the undead in the Ruins of Eldarath. It is also easy enough to buy one from the auction house before you come to get the second quest of the chain. They drop fairly often though so it isn't a big deal to have to farm for one.

Once you have returned the ichor of undeath to Ogtinic he lets you know the last part of the quest. The last quest is to travel to the Sunken Temple and kill the dragon Morphaz and retrieve his blood. You do not return the blood to him though, instead you must find Greta Mosshoof in Felwood. The sunken temple is a hard instance for a group of all level 50's so you may have to wait a few levels to complete this part.

Once you have killed Morphaz, Greta gives you the option to pick an item from 3 possible rewards. All 3 are good however the most common one to take is the prayer beads. As the saying goes "A friend in need is a friend without beads", at least according to the quote on them.

The items are:

Blessed Prayer Beads
Woestave
Circle of Hope

Trinket

Use: Increases healing done by spells and effects by up to 190 for 20 seconds

Cooldown: 2 min

Wand

68-127 Shadow Damage

51.3 DPS

+3 Stamina

Equip: Increases damage done by Shadow spells and effects by up to 11
Finger

+6 Shadow Resistance

Equip: Increases the critical effect chance of your Holy spells by 1%

Level 51-60 Priest Quests

Dire Maul

There is a class specific book quest in Dire Maul for each quest. For the Priest class it involves finding the book "Holy Bologna: What the Light Won't Tell You" and taking it to the library in the west instance of Dire Maul. The book is a drop from any of the boss mobs in DM. When turned into the library you will recieve a trinket "Royal Seal of Eldre'Thalas". The trinket gives you +10 fire resist, increases healing done by spells and effects by up to 33 and restores 4 mana every 5 sec. It is well worth doing this quest.

Dungeon Set Upgrade Quests (Class Tier 0.5 Set)

In patch 1.10 Blizzard implemented an upgrade to the class set items available in the late game instances. This change it to allow non-raiders to put time and effort in to gain access to epic quality items without having to raid. While the items are not as good as raid epics they are a decent step up in power from the tier 0 set items.

For the Priest class you update the Devout set to the Virtuous set. All of the pieces gain +damage/healing power and many gain the +mana/5 sec ability. Both are a nice upgrade for both holy and shadow spec priests.

You can find a complete listing of the items that you will receive and their stats in our equipment section.

We also have a complete guide to the quests involved in getting the second tier dungeon set. It can be found here: Tier 0.5 Armor Set Quests.

The Balance of Light and Shadow

This is a level 60 quest for priests to obtain potentially the best staff in
the game for them Benediction / Anathema. The staff can morph between two
versions, one for healers and one for shadow priests. This information and
strategy provided here came to us from: Tsunaca on the Silver Hand server.

Thanks a ton for the info Tsunaca! You can search for more info on the quest in our Quest Database.

Step 1:

Get  The Eye of Divinity from Majordomo's Chest in Molten Core (50% drop
rate)

Step 2:

What you need:

Required:

A. Eye of Divinity

Recommended:

A. Oil of Immolation x 10
B. 2 Major Mana Pots

The Quest:

1. Take your Eye of Divinity to a tunnel near the main entrance of
Stratholme (head west of the entrance side of the water) and equip it
(trinket).

2. When you walk through the tunnel go down the path a bit (shouldn't be any
mobs pathing in this area) and you should see a female human ghost.  Speak
to her, obtain the quest, and go back near the tunnel.

3. You will get a few waves of ghosts (I believe there are 5 waves) that you
have to save. If 15 ghosts die you fail. There will be
ghost archers on the rocks that will shoot at you and your ghostly charges.
You will also get waves of skeletons that run out to attack.  Some of your
ghosts will not fight back, others will.  Your goal is to let as few die as
possible, and not go over the limit of 15.

Details:

A. The respawn time on the quest ghost is 2 hours

B. You cannot have outside help of any kind (so if get buffed before hand
and don't let anyone help you.  This includes any rebuffing that may need to
be done.  Any outside help will cause the quest to fail.)

C. You will be pvp flagged, so you may want to make sure you don't have any
of the opposing faction around.

The Strat:

I stood outside the tunnel about halfway between the ghost and the tunnel
(but closer to the tunnel).  The ghosts you're saving will come out of the
tunnel in waves.  I drank oil of immolation throughout this fight because it
was more mana efficient than using shadow guard (troll racial). I think I
used about 5 of them, but I could have easily used more. I did NOT follow
the peasants. I watched them, and mostly renewed and cured diseased them as
needed, and occasionally flash healed.  I hit the V button on my keyboard to
see their health bars so that I could rescue the dieing and ignore the rest.

I found standing in one place would have the next skeleton wave hit me
before the ghosts wandered out.  This helped.  I only needed one mana pot..
and I seriously question the need for it.  You could probably get by
without, but better to be prepared! (When I did this quest I had around 8 k
mana, and am Disc/Holy spec)

You can't really do anything about the archers, so just ignore them. They're
going to plink away at you and your ghosts, so get used to the idea.  Don't
waste your mana on them.

Don't forget to heal yourself. I bubbled and healed myself as needed.
For the most part keeping Renew on myself as well was plenty. The Oil of
Immolation
killed the skeletons quickly. I think they only had around 100 hp.

One other thing that I noted while watching a friend complete this quest is
that others cannot (or at least I couldn't) see the skeletons or the ghosts.
So while they may not be able to help you kill anything by accident, make
sure that any friendly faction people don't interfere or help by healing or
buffing you in any way.

Once you save your ghosts you receive: Splinter of Nordrassil

Step 3:

Obtain an Eye of Shadow (dropped 100% from Kazzak (world spawn), or you can
farm the
demons in Winterspring (this is probably a MUCH faster route) These are BOE,
so really you may even be able to find one in the AH.... it's cheaper to
farm!

Step 4:

Click to combine the pieces and receive your staff.  Benediction / Anathema
