2.0 - Quests

ROGUE POISON QUEST is no longer required. A lot of this is for history purposes.

The next part of this Guide will introduce you to the heart of The World of Warcraft, “Questing”. Doing quests will by far provided the player with the most experience points, and will have decent rewards for the player as well. Blizzard has designed most of the quests to suit both the solo adventurer and those who like to group.

2.1 – Introduction to quests

Why are quests so important?

Let me give you an example: all monsters that you kill in the world will give you a set amount of experience points based on its level, experience points will allow you to level so the more experience points you get the faster you will level. Lets say you have a quest that requires you to kill 10 moonstalkers. With the quest, you will get the experience you would normally get for killing it, plus and additional bonus for completing the quest. This makes it a lot easier to progress in the game and will help you obtain better items then what you start off with.

How do I grab a quest?

Once you have created, the first thing you will want to do when you enter the game is look for a NPC (non-player character) with an exclamation point over his head. This mark means that this NPC has quests for you to do. Walk up to him, right click and you will see a list of the different quests you can do. Select the quest and it will describe to you what needs to be done.

The NPC won’t talk to me, the exclamation point is white.

All quests in the World of Warcraft have what is called a “level restriction” on them. The reason it’s white is because the NPC does have a quest for you, however you are not high enough level to start it.

Okay I grabbed the quest but now I can’t remember what to do to complete it.

That’s where the quest log comes in. Built into the World of Warcraft is a Quest Log. This keeps track of all the quests that you are currently working on. If you can’t remember what to do for a certain quest, just click on the “gold cup” icon on your menu bar or press “L” on the keyboard. Highlight the quest and it will give you the same description you got when you first grabbed the quest.

I have completed the quest but I am not sure how to turn it in to get the reward.

Most of the quests you will do will both start and end with the person you got it from. The other quests will let you know in the description if there is a specific person you need to talk to. Once the quest is completed head back to the area you got it from. On the map you will see a “Yellow Dot”. This indicates the person you need to talk to in order to turn in the quest. Once you find the NPC he should have a yellow question mark over his head. Talk to him and you should be able to get your reward.

Keep in mind that most of the quests have been put together to advance you from one area to the next. If you get stuck, don’t be afraid to ask for help. Take your time, have fun, and enjoy the rewards you get from questing.

2.2 - Quests

For the very low levels almost all characters of a set race start with and have access to the same basic quests. This covers the starting areas and all the quests are just to get you familiar with the game.

The very early level quests (level 1-5) are all around your starting point. There are enough to keep you busy for about an hour and level you from 1 through 5. When you first appear in the game you should search out an NPC close to you that has a glowing gold exclamation point (!) over their head. Once you complete the quest, that NPC or some other NPC (in the case of delivery type quests) will have a glowing gold question mark (?) over their head. This makes it easy to tell who to go to too finish your quest. The NPC will also show up on your mini map as a small gold dot, to make them easier to find when finishing a quest.

Poisons Quest

When you reach level 20, you will be asked by your trainer in the capital city of your faction (Orgrimmar or Stormwind) to complete a chain of quests in order to be able to coat your weapons with poison - this skill is essential for any rogue and this quest should be completed by any aspiring rogue, as it will let you increase your damage output significantly as well as add many other types of ailments on your enemies.

Alliance Questline

Mathias and the Defias

Start: Master Mathias Shaw, leader of the SI:7 in Stormwind.

You will be asked to go to Westfall and meet up with Agent Kearnen - she will be infront of the tower southeast of Westfall, where some tough-looking monsters are about.

Klaven's Tower

Your task is simple, pickpocket the Malformed Defias near the tower for the key, and then climb up, while stealthed, to the very top of the tower. Once there, sap Klaven and open his chest, taking the Journal, then go back to your questgiver. This will complete your Quest and let you learn Poisons! Alas, you will be poisoned yourself and lead to a followup...

The Touch of Zanzil

You will be told to go seek out Doc Mixipixil in the Cellar of the Barracks. Use /lay infront of him so he examines you, then he will demand that you give him:

Simple Wild Flowers

Leaded Vial

Bronze Tube

Spool of Light Chartreuse Silk Thread

These will let you obtain the cure. Alternatively, you may ask for a higher level character to cure you and skip this step, but you will miss out on some experience.

Horde Questline

Rogues of the Shattered Hand

Start: Zelanis in Orgrimmar's Cleft of Shadow

After teaching you the salute you must do, you will be sent to the Venture Co. Tower north of the sludge fen and use your Flare Gun twice, then use your Shattered Hand Salute twice on the agent in there.

Mission Possible but not Probable

For this Quest you have these objectives:

Mutated Venture Co. Drone slain (2)

Venture Co. Lookout slain (2)

Venture Co. Patroller slain (2)

Gallywix's Head

Silixiz's Tower Key

Cache of Zanzil's Altered Mixture

Sounds like a lot? Here's what you need to do.

1F - Mutated Drones. They seem high level, but 1 ambush attack will kill them instantly. If needed, Vanish and ambush the other one to complete this step.

2F - Patrollers. Use rupture here to off them quickly, it will take down lots of health.

3F - Lookouts. Use eviscerate (even 1 combo point) to turn them into more manageable slimes.

4F - Gallywix. Use ambush to bring him down 50% then take him out as soon as possible, take his key and take the mixture. Complete!

You will have the Poison on you and be told to go to Tarren Mill upon reporting to your Rogue Trainer, here, you will be cleansed and you will learn the Poisons Skill!
