Pocket Guide - Instances

Updated Fri, Feb 29, 2008 by Aurael

What are Instances?

Instances are the classic dungeons that are present in most roleplaying games. They are called instances because each time you enter the swirling portal entrance, the dungeon you are entering is unique to the group you are in. This is done to prevent multiple groups going after the same boss simultaneously.

Finding a Group

There are various methods to finding a group for an instance. The first thing to know is whether or not the instance you are going to be going through is a raid instance or not. A normal party includes five members. A raid instance requires a group of more than five members.

One way to look for a group is to use the Looking for Group tool. This is the fastest way to ensure a group.

Another way is to use your chat channels to ask if anyone else is willing to accompany you to whichever instance you are wanting to go through.

Doing your Part

It is a good idea before beginning the instance to set rules for how to deal with loot. You can view a pocket guide for tips on setting loot rules here.

Different classes are better at different things. Be sure to use your class in the method that would ensure a speedy trip through the dungeon. For example, if you are a cloth wearer, do not expect to shield the rest of the group from damage by use of your person. Leave that to a class that has more armor.

Be open to doing all that your class is capable of doing and most of all be considerate to your party members. The tip in the opening screen says it best: "Being polite when in a group with others will get you invited back!"

I finally got myself a Razor Naga (Molten Edition)!

About a year ago, I really wanted a naga mouse for my birthday. However, my girlfriend goes to BestBuy and the jerk working there tells her that I wouldn't like the naga because its too hard to push the buttons on the side. He told her to get me the World of Warcraft mouse (Cataclysm Edition).
