It Puts the Powercube in the Socket

by: Taea

Deep in the Bane controlled part of southern Valverde Plateau stands a secretive enemy facility known as Maligo Base. After slogging through the muck of Ustor Yard, you are ready to break in to this Bane stronghold and find out just what it is they are doing in there. Prepare your early level 30’s squad for a crazy 2+ hours of alien-killing excitement, in an instance littered with loot filled crates. Experience and money make this an excellent leveling and credit producing instance.

Your squad has just completed the first half of the Maligo Base Instance and activated the teleporter at 34,-62,-183 by flipping the switch against the wall. It’s time to step inside to beam up to the upper level. As you move in you’ll see a great cutscene showing the death and destruction up here. AFS Prisoners and Bane bodies litter the room, and fire burns everywhere. One Way Trip updates now with a new objective to find out what caused all this destruction. Jog up the ramp to your right and find the Downed Prisoner lying on the ground at 375,-22,-177. Talk to him to receive Coup, and listen to his tale of escape. The rest of the prisoners are still in danger and are being led to the Bane wormhole. Go find Squad Leader Altera and give him the news.

It Must be Destroyed

You’ll notice this room overlooks the prisoner cell area. From this vantage point, take a rifle and dispose of the Thrax Technician near the computer downstairs and to the north. Now you can run back across the entrance room to the west, and up the ramps. You’re entering a room where you get a great view of the wormhole device, but you’ll have to take out several Technicians and Riflemen first. Proceed down the hallway at 288,-22,-175 for more Bane targets, and turn west to meet up with Altera at 240,-22,-127. Altera updates Coup with news that many of the AFS prisoners have had mind control chips implanted in their brains. There aren’t many soldiers left fighting, and what few there are really need some supplies and ammo. You’ll find the supplies in crates in the storage rooms around here, and ammo can be picked up off dead soldiers’ bodies. The Rotting Human Corpses are found here:

  • 236,-22,-128
  • 295,-22,-190
  • 378,-22,-180
  • 392,-30,-160
  • 176,-22,-210

Storage Rooms are here:

  • 233,-23,-79
  • 338,-31,-141
  • 160,-23,-105

Take the materials to Info Spec Neuman at the Hospital location at 231,-22,-245. Do not speak to her about One Way Trip yet, as that can sometimes bug the instance. Advance Coup, then return to Altera. He wants to get the cell doors open and free the prisoners, but the doors were still locked. But wait, what’s that noise? Sounds like a mess of Bane incoming. Rush to the west hallway and take out the enemy as they run in, then continue to the catwalk drop off at 128,-23, -140, and jump down. Dispatch the enemy, then use the computer terminal at 129,-30,-142 to open the cell doors. Enjoy the cut scene of the AFS soldiers running free, then run back to Altera to complete Coup with a reward of 6600 credits and choice of Repair Tool, Pulse Disperser, Pulse Shotgun or Laser Torqueshell Rifle.

It’s time to head back to the Hospital station and speak to Info Spec Neuman to advance One Way Trip. The Bane were using the AFS prisoners to test their new wormhole device, and a lot of the results were, well, messy. The prisoners were able to stage a coup and get free, and now they’re fighting back. Some prisoners are still being used for testing, and the best way to save them is to destroy the device itself. Neuman lets you know that destroying the wormhole device is much too big a job, but you could go after the power supply for the whole thing. Take it down, and you’ll render the wormhole useless. The power supply is run by computer, so you’ll need to find the control chip and plug it into the standby socket. Before you leave, wave hello to the mob of freed prisoners who profess their thanks to you. Are you the one who freed us? Why yes, yes you are. You go with your hero self!

Head west out of the hospital area, across the open room and up the ramps to 95,-22,-172. Notice the laser beams here – don’t cross them until you have cleared the room of a Caretaker, Technicians and a Rifleman or two. When you cross the beams the alarm goes off, summoning bunch more to do battle with. You’ll also get an update to One Way Trip for locating the Wormhole Device. Turn left and find the Named Overseer Kythura to the South, and loot the Level 3 Access Keypass from him. At the computer bank at 56,-22,-212, remove the Powercube, then take it north to the socket at 70,-23,-111. Plug it in to power down the wormhole, and get a mission update advising you to talk to Demolitionist Maybauer. He pops in at 71,-22,-146, but DON’T talk to him yet. In order to make the run to the wormhole easier, take your squad and clear the hallways ahead first. Drop a squad waypoint to make the return faster, if you want to. With patch 1.6 the waypoints should persist correctly in the instances.

Back in the socket room, find the computer panel against the wall at 69,-23,-117. Use it, and get a cutscene showing a yellow panel door opening ahead. Run back south and through the now open red paneled force field. Up ahead you’ll run into a Named Howler Devourer Rwalda. The regen or hit points on this guy are insane, so expect a good fight. You can pull back toward Maybauer to help break up the mass of Bane that will be running at you. Quickly target any Sentinels floating around, too, or you’ll get a never ending squad of Thrax porting in. Keep following the path west killing all Bane. You’ll loop up north, and finally have access to the main Wormhole room. Work your way around the circle and clear the enemy, including a mortar and named Thrax Rifleman Preceptor Qualym.

Destroyed Wormhole Device

Now you can pop back to Maybauer and talk to him. We didn’t get the wormhole powered down in time, and the prisoners are being marched toward it. Harvest the bomb from the crate at his feet, and double time it back to the wormhole room. You’ll see the controlled AFS prisoners lined up and ready to jump into the wormhole. Hurry and place the bomb at -1,-32,-161. Good Job! You’ll notice the prisoners waking up and muttering confusingly.

Lieutenant Homburg will appear in the room through a transporter at -46,-32,-203. He’ll direct you to report in to Colonel Bosley back in Camp Resistance to finish up the mission. You can take his transporter back to the zone entrance, out the door and to the Maligo Bridge Waypoint. Travel to the camp, where Bosley is amazed to find you alive. The General is well pleased with your work, and completes One Way Trip with a reward of 8000 credits and choice of Graviton Helmet, or Mech/Bio/Stealth Gloves.
