If you are a PvP player and want to get honor for new gear as fast as possible, your best bet is the bonus honor weekends. Most players know about them, but few really now how they work. Many players call them double honor weekends which is not really accurate since you do not earn twice the honor. Instead you get bonus honor for accomplishing different tasks based on the battleground. Even the term bonus honor weekend is not correct. Blizzard calls them Battleground Holiday weekends. However, most players refer to them as bonus honor weekends, and to keep things simple and clear so will we.

While your main goal in a battleground during a bonus honor weekend is the honor, there is something else to be watched for. In addition to bonus honor, many players like using the weekend to get in a number of fast queuing games to store up a stockpile of the battleground marks. After a month of doing this you have a pile of each and can turn 1 of each in for even more bonus honor.

The Basics of Honor

Let's start from the beginning. While in a battleground your bonus honor is calculated based on objectives being completed. Each time you complete an object you earn what amounts to a boss kill. Each of these kills awards a certain amount of honor, dependant on your level. The two main brackets to be aware of are the 51-60 bracket granting approximately 14 honor per kill and the 61-70 bracket granting approximately 21 honor per kill. The number of kills an objective counts as depends on the battleground and the objective.

Example: when your team destroys a tower at level 70 in Alterac Valley it counts as 3 kills. This means that you earn roughly 63 honor.

Each battleground awards bonus honor as shown in the sections below. All bonus honor is shown as if you are in the level 61-70 bracket.

Alterac Valley

In Alterac Valley most of the bonuses stay the same from a normal game to a holiday bonus honor game.

Objective Normal Honor Bonus Weekend Honor
Destory a Tower 63 63
Kill Captain 63 63
Kill General 84 84
Your Captain alive at end of game 42 42
Your General alive at end of game 42 42
Each of your towers not destroyed at end of game 42 42
Finish the game (win or lose) 0 84

Arathi Basin

In Arathi Basin you earn bonus honor for the resources that you capture much quicker on a holiday weekend. However, there is no additional bonus for any other objective or for finishing the game, therefore you need to maximize the resources that you collect to make the most of the weekend.

Objective Normal Honor Bonus Weekend Honor
Per 330 resources gathered (normal game) 21 -
Per 200 resources gathered (holiday weekend game) - 21
Win 21 21
Finish the game (win or lose) 21 21

Eye of the Storm

Eye of the Storm works in almost an identical method as Arathi Basin, with the bonus honor coming from capturing resources. Therefore, you must try to hold towers or capture flags as much as you can to maximize your bonus honor.

Objective Normal Honor Bonus Weekend Honor
Per 330 resources gathered (normal game) 21 -
Per 200 resources gathered (holiday weekend game) - 21
Win 21 21
Finish the game (win or lose) 21 21

Warsong Gulch

Much of the bonus honor in Warsong Gulch comes from finishing the game. Just staying until a game ends gains you as much honor on a bonus weekend as capturing two flags. Also, on a bonus a win is rewarded much more than normal, so the competition becomes much more fierce. Be warned, many weekend games go for a much longer time than normal games as players fight for those extra points.

Objective Normal Honor Bonus Weekend Honor
Per Flag Capture 42 42
Win 21 63
Finish the game (win or lose) 42 84
