World of Warcraft Litch King Preview

World of Warcraft: Dungeons, Daily Quests, and Raiding in Wrath of the Lich King

Posted May 9th, 2008 by Cody Bye

For the World of Warcraft player base, one of the most anticipated areas of the upcoming Wrath of the Lich King expansion is the vast number of additional dungeons, daily quests, and raids that are going to be suddenly injected into the game. Players who have been churning their wheels at level 70 for months will now have an opportunity to level their characters once more and vie for that cherished top raiding guild prize. With that in mind, the developers at Blizzard set aside nearly thirty minutes of presentation time at their recent press preview to devote solely to the dungeons and raids that players will be seeing in Wrath of the Lich King. Ten Ton Hammer's Cody "Micajah" Bye got the exclusive scoop on the content and has presented it to you for your educational entertainment!

At this point, Kaplan stopped and really focused his attention on the press attendees. “We’re making a fairly major change to our raiding game that I’m really excited to talk about,” Kaplan began. “We’re going to have a lot of raid instances in Wrath of the Lich King, but rather than have some of them 10 person and some 25 person, all of the raid instances will use our heroic dungeon technology to be 10 AND 25 person instances.”

I'm totally stoked for 10 man AND 25 man raids in the upcoming expansion. It looks to be an awesome new progression system.

I agree. It's good that they're sticking with 10 and 25 main raid instances instead of increasing the limit back to 40.

I agree - I like how you can do things on either basis. Some guilds will just never be big enough to field a 25-man team so having the 10-man version available is a cool concept.

Karazhan being 10-man was tough on a lot of guilds, including mine, but what also became difficult was the "ramp up" back to a 25-man team and many people who were content running Karazhan and especially after a weekly run netted you 22.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out but I do like the concep...

I suggested this idea to split 10 and 25 person raids like the Normal and Heroic dungeon system, and now Blizzard is doing it!
