The VIP's of Warhammer Online

Warhammer Online Age of Reckoning boasts a number of famous people and places from the Warhammer universe. This months newsletter released concept art of a few of these interesting folks we can expect to see in the game later this month. Ten Ton Hammer did it's best to dig up what information we could on these heroes and villains to provide you with a quick synopsis of their role in Warhammer. Are you familiar with the horrors of Nurgle or know who the Dwarf Slayer king is? Read on to learn more.

Grimtongue the Sateless

Not to be confused with J.R.R. Tolkien's weasely advisor, Wormtongue, little is known about this creature beyond the fact it's really ugly and has pincer hands. He does make an appearance as part of a Public Quest in the Chaos Wastes much later in the game. We were unable to find anything about him in the Games Workshop lore, but expect to face and defeat him if you are Destruction.

Long Drong Slayer Pirates

According to Games Workshop:

"Long Drong Slayer has a hook hand, peg leg, eyepatch, long red plaited beard, pistols stuffed down his breeches and a parrot on his shoulder which says "bits o' gold, bits o' gold" all the time. His crew are a swarthy bunch of rogues who are proud to fight under the skull and crossbones flag. They are also festooned with pistols, creating a hurricane of destruction when they are fired at the enemy!"

What else can you say? These are pirates through and through! Although there are major points for using the word "festooned", these guys are little more than mercenaries and are only on one side, their own.

Slayering Ungrim

According to Games Workshop this the Dwarf Slayer King of Karak Kadrin, Ungrim Ironfist:

"The tale of the Ironfist family is long and woeful. Many years ago, Ungrim's five times great grandsire, King Baragor, suffered a great and terrible loss which drove him to take the oath of the Slayers. What caused him to make such a sudden and drastic decision is not recorded in the Book of Grudges of Karak Kadrin, nor in the Records of the Kings, nor even the stronghold's Book of Days. It is commonly assumed that the cause was the death of his daughter at the claws of the great Dragon Skaladrak. The King's daughter was on her way to marry the son of the High King at Karaz-a-Karak. In any case, Baragor became the first Slayer King of Karak Kadrin."

Dwarf Slayers are some of the most ruthless and violent fighters in the world of Warhammer. Preferring combat against overwhelming odds these blood thirsy warriors make up a special part of the Dwarf army.

Eltharion Ryman

This is one of the greatest heroes of the High Elves and well documented in the lore of Warhammer:

"Eltharion, Warden of Tor Yvresse, is one of the greatest generals of Ulthuan, and his legend is a famous one. It was Eltharion who stole through the streets of Naggarond, slaying all who crossed his path. It was Eltharion who cut a swathe of destruction through the Naggarothi countryside. It is Eltharion that Malekith, the Witch King of the Dark Elves, loathes and dreads above all others. Some say that Eltharion tempted fate too greatly when he returned alive from campaigning in Naggaroth, for he was the first general ever to do so. Others say that his lineage was always accursed. Whatever the truth, the dour Elf lord is doomed to a life of constant battle. Upon his return from Naggaroth, Eltharion was hurled into the forefront of the fight against Waaagh! Grom. With victory, he assumed the wardenship of Tor Yvresse and has since been at the forefront of Ulthuan's defence, enduring trials of strength and will that would consume lesser beings."

Adored by High Elf women and hated by the Dark Elves. That just about says it all.

Lord Uthorin

One of the most powerful houses in the Dark Elf world, Mythic provides us a great descriptions:

"Of all the noble houses of the Dark Elves, few can boast the power and influence of House Uthorin. As patriarch and ruler of the house, Lord Uthorin is a master of intrigue and politics. Rumor holds that his eye is fixed firmly upon the Witch King's throne; if that is his ambition, he has wisely kept it hidden, preferring to play the role of loyal advisor.

Through cunning and treachery, Lord Uthorin's eldest son, Kaloth Coldshadow, earned for his House the privilege of drawing first blood when the Dark Elves attack Ulthuan. Along with every warrior of the House, the Black Ark Nemesis conveys Beastmasters and their fearsome creatures of war, fanatical devotees of the Temple of Khaine, and powerful masters of Dark Magic across the sea. The full might of his armies now gathered, Lord Uthorin chooses to strike first at the Blighted Isle, near the Altar of Khaine.

The Witch King has plans of his own, however. Well aware of Lord Uthorin's desire to rule the Dark Elves, Malekith commands Lady Arkaneth, Uthorin's most powerful rival, to land her invasion force on the Blighted Isle as well. The cold and calculating Witch King has pit two of his most powerful rivals against one other, so that both will be weakened by the conflict and post less of a threat to him.

Lord Uthorin will need every measure of cunning and skill that he possesses to outmaneuver Lady Arkaneth, the Witch King and the High Elves all at once. If he should succeed, the reward for those loyal to his House will be almost beyond measure."

Nurgle

Almost anyone who has ever played Warhammer has heard of Nurgle but according to Games Workshop:

"Known also as Nurglitch, Onogal, Neiglen and by many other titles, Nurgle is the Lord of Decay. It is he who unleashes famines and pestilence upon the world, and so it is to Nurgle that mortals turn when they wish protection from the ravages of disease, age and the inevitable decline brought by the passing years. When the crops are spoilt, when a child falls feverish and when wounds begin to fester on the field of battle, supplications are offered to Nurgle for him to stay his hand.

To his followers, Nurgle appears as a massively bloated creature, festering with boils, poxes and surrounded by a dark cloud of flies, each of which carries the symbol of the god upon its carapace. His skin is rent and torn, and from his exposed guts spill the Nurglings, the spiteful mites of Nurgle. Nurgle is said to delight in every new pox, every unique rash and blister, and of all the gods takes the most interest in the plight of his mortal followers.

Nurgle is portrayed as a kindly, almost jovial god, known often as Father or Grandfather Nurgle. While foolish non-believers may moan, gnash their teeth and pull their hair when plague sweeps the lands, and villages and towns tumble into ruins, those dedicated to Nurgle laugh to see the great works of their master. They have accepted the futility of defying Nurgle and the inescapable dilapidation that he brings, and instead embrace the delights of decay and disease, the pleasures of entropy and ruin."

A little disturbing perhaps, but very descriptive.
