Wyrmrest Temple

Wyrmrest Temple

Wyrmrest Temple is a great location for many reasons, not the least of which is its stunning appearance. The first thing you notice about the temple is its size. It is a massive building towering over the whole zone. In fact you can see it from almost anywhere in the zone.

The temple offers a great opportunity for players to interact with the various Dragonflights who are part of the Wyrmrest Accord located there. Many times throughout the World of Warcraft game you are forced to take sides and fight one Dragonflight or another, here you get a chance to work with many of them as you fight the Blue Dragonflight and Malygos. The Accord is lead by Alexstrasza the Lifebringer and she can be found on the top level of the temple.

The other members of the Accord include an ambassador from the Bronze, Green and Black Dragonflights. Probably best of all, the ambassador for the Bronze Dragonflight is none other than Chromie, who most players will remember from her various appearances in the Western Plaguelands and other zones.

When you first arrive with your letter of introduction, you are asked to prove yourself and help out at the Ruby Dragonshrine to the west. The quests there involve helping the defenders slay the Scourge that are coming from the shrine, then fighting your way in to find out what is happening there and to stop it. Along the way you help put several dragons to rest and slay the now corrupt protector of the shrine.

Ruby Dragonshrine

Once you have completed this chain you can talk to Alexstrasza on the second floor of the temple and the ambassadors on the top level. Alexstrasza is in charge of protecting the tower from the assaulting Blue Dragonflight and has a very cool daily quest that you can do. The quest provides a dragon mount which you can fly around the area slaying Blue Dragonflight drakes and dragons on in defence of the tower.

On the top level of the tower the ambassadors all have various involved quest chains for you to complete. Chromie for example is looking for assistance in staving of an impending attack by the Infinite Dragonflight. The Black Dragonflight ambassador is looking for assistance fending off attacks by the Cult of the Damned. Lastly the Greed Dragonflight ambassador needs assistance in fighting of the Scourge and sends you to the Emerald Dragonshrine.

As you can see, you get to spend a lot of time getting to know and interact with all the Dragonflights. It is very easy to lose track of time while questing around the Temple as the quests seem to keep going and going. Also the lore sucks you into the story, so make sure you read it and not just skip by it. Once you are done here it is time to move west to Wintergarde Keep.

Wintergarde Keep

The last major quest hub in the zone is to the far east of the zone and is called Wintergarde Keep. The Keep is an impressive fortress perched high atop a mountain. However it is under heavy assault by the Scourge who have the area surrounded. In addition Naxxramas looms menacingly nearby providing constant reinforcements.

Naxxramas Looms Overhead

The Keep and area have several interesting quests, including a very fun rescue mission that starts many of the chains in the area. The request quest involves summoning a gryphon that you then fly around the farms that are under assault in the valley below the keep. There you will find villagers that are attempting to flee the Scourge attackers. Fly close enough to them and you can get them to mount the gryphon with you and then return them to the safety of the Keep.

Once the few opening quests are complete you can move on the the various group quests and quests in the mines and crypts. Another of the great quests in the area is a group quest given to you by the commander of the keep to track down and slay one of the Scourge commanders. Since so many players are usually questing in the area, finding a group is easy and the item rewards are very good.

By the time you are done questing here, you will be ready to move on to the next zone in the normal progression path. That zone is Grizzly Hills and is located just east of Dragonblight. If you have reached level 74 while questing here then you may also want to visit the capital city of Dalaran. To get to the city you just need to reach level 74, at which point the nearest quest provider will teleport you there on a quest. Until you reach level 74 though the only way to get there is with a Mage port or a Warlocks summon.
