Dark Elf Leveling Guide: Chapter 1-4

The Blighted Isle has seen more battle between Dark and High Elf than any other place in the world. The Isle continually changes possession, even during times considered relatively peaceful by the High Elves.  It is here that the Altar of Khaine resides, from which Aenarion drew the Sword of Khaine to save the world from Chaos

Narthain Beach

The Blighted Isle is found in the northwest of the warring Elven lands surrounded by the Great Ocean. This is the region in which all Dark Elves will find themselves upon entering the game, specifically on Narthain Beach.  As a new recruit, it will be your mission to aid your dark brethren in the destruction of the fallen Elven sister race of the White Elves.  None shall be granted favor and all shall perish for their weakness.

Once you've gained your bearings in your new surroundings, you'll want to jump right into your first tasks.  Directly ahead of you when you spawn into game, you'll find Gorthan Rakar who will get you started in a few minor quests to kill some elves and sprites, and a quick intro to the siege weapons.  You'll also want to speak with Janesa who will teach you a little of unlocking areas for your Tomb of Knowledge.

Make note of the two NPCs in front of the ship.  One is a merchant and the other is a trainer and you'll see these at nearly every stop along your journey, recognizable by their icons above their heads.

Your time on the Narthain Beach will be short and you'll soon find yourself making your way up the hill to Black Ark Landing.

Black Ark Landing

This is where you'll get your first bulk of real questing.  You were sent here to speak with Nehmora The Hag and she'll have several quests for you such as Dance of Khaine and Fallen Kin that will lead you to the nearby areas to kill more White Elves.  Across the way from Nehmora you'll find Uthorin Warscout who gives you your first RvR scenario called Khaine's Embrace.  I'd hang onto this one for a short bit until you've gotten a couple more ranks under your belt, otherwise you could find yourself on the receiving end of a very brutal beating!

Outside the gates a bit to the southeast stands Overseer Rathus.  He gives you the amusing task of ensnaring an enemy and bringing him back for his capture in the quest For Amusement's Sake.  The elves are found in the forest area to the east and the item to mez is in your backpack, just don't lose him on your way back!  Next to the Overseer you will find another new NPC to keep an eye out for.  This one is named Saril Zaen and he is a Kill Collector.  As you slay your enemies, the Kill Collectors will reward you with a bit of experience, so keep an eye out for them and utilize that extra xp!

Isha's Garden

Continuing your travels on down the road, you'll come to Isha's Garden, this area holds several more questing opportunities from those such as Beastmaster Maughann and Tiritha Venomfire.  You also might stumble upon an Aged Ornate Chest next to one of the spires in the ruins that gives a neat little quest that is worth picking up.

Isha's Garden will also introduce you to your first Dark Elf Public Quest!  Don't pass it up and visit often!   This is your chance to earn what you can for Chapter 1, and while you can always return to gain more influence, the rewards are geared toward this specific level range.  These are a lot of fun and add a unique aspect to gameplay as well as providing a simple way of gearing up your character at even the lower levels.  You'll be battling Narthain soldiers and mages for Chapter 1, and a challenging hero class drake called Sunlathir with other players in the area.  Simply follow the directions and do your best to pitch in and you're sure to enjoy.

You'll also find here a couple new NPC regulars.  The Renown Merchant Keeper Vantrek and the Rally Master Kaltarn.  As you work on the public quests and RvR, these are NPC types that you'll want to check in with to gain your rewards.

Mistwood

The Mistwood camp is a great location packed with quests and your first location in Chapter 2.  You'll finds tons to do here, but stop in and talk with Kerryn Darkwater right off.  He will have several quests for you that have you searching high and low for important items.  One mission will send you hunting for the Tome of l'Khar in the quest Must Have or you might find yourself hunting down Nimosar warriors with Legend and Infamy.  Some of the quests here get a little bit tougher and take you into mob groups that could have you standing face to face with Hero level mobs such as with the quest Hated Kin.  When you do Hated Kin be sure not to engage the mob, simply use the item in the quest portion of your backpack when you get near her.

Another great quest line is the Prize of War series given by Urathos Baneblade.  This one will take you over the bridge to an elven camp.  You'll need to slay the appropriate mobs to gain the keys to open the chest while avoiding the champions that wander the area.  If you have a few friends with, just keep the camp cleaned up while you wait for the named enemies to spawn.

Along with the many NPCs in camp that give out oodles of quests, there is also a goblin, Grulnok Dirtnog, that travels the road that can be easily overlooked.  The quest he has, Back-biters, is repeatable, so if you happen to be questing in the area grab it every time you head out!

Dreamshade

Moving deeper into the first tier of the lands of the dark elf, you'll be heading to the Dreamshade camp and closer to the frontlines of the struggle.  There aren't quite as many quests here as there were in Mistwood, but speak with Setir Fellgaze

and Bethraldar Redlash for some tasks that have you slaying nearby creepy crawly creatures or some of those pesky White Lions and Dreamshades. Careful though, if you wonder into the public quests are you may get a little surprise from some of the traps set about!  Noble Pirovus gives the series Due Recognition that will have you dealing with some of those traps along with hunting down elven enemies and flaunting your victories in their faces.

Dreamshade is really your last stop in Tier 1 PvE play.  From here you will travel onwards to the War Camp that will introduce you to larger scale RvR by giving you plenty of tasks that take you into the fray of battle.

Cynathai Span War Camp

The Cynathai War Camp is the RvR hub for Dark Elves and those that travel to the Blighted Isles to assist in the battle.  At the War Camp you will find a few more quests that focus on RvR gameplay, the Renown Trainer, a Renown Merchant, and the Flight Master who can take you just about anywhere.

There are really only a few NPCs here that give tasks and all are very similar in nature.  Turakar the Scarred gives you a RvR task of killing 10 of your player opponents either by joining a scenario or moving on to Chrace in the quest Death and Honor.  If this is your first go at RvR gameplay, I suggest trying the scenario first to get your feet wet but never be afraid to join in the battle.  The very worst that can happen is you'll die.  Repeatedly.  You might also get laughed at, but hey..they're White Elves and pretty lame, so what do we Dark Elves care?

Zanrith Valonir offers several quests for you, such as Seize the Altar of Khaine, Shard Duty, Stealers of the Nightflame, and more that take you directly into the battlefield on scouting missions.  Nistren Tyros will give you a task that has you re-claiming the Nightflame.

RvR and Beyond

From the War Camp, you'll move onto Chrace where the battle with the White Elves continue.  It progresses in much the same way and really all you need to do is keep your eyes open for quests and RvR opportunities.  You'll be given plenty more tasks and reasons to keep advancing your character.  RvR becomes more prominent the higher rank you get so be sure to get practice in with either scenarios or on the battlefield.

Remember not to skip over the Public Quests!  These are so much fun and a highly valuable resource for items and gear.  Even if no one is around to complete them with you, you can still solo or small group just enough to gain influence for those rewards.

Malagum's Charge

Now that you've proven yourself by slaughtering hundreds of High Elves and Unicorns, it's time to move into the beautiful world of Chrace. You should be at least level 6 by now unless you are looking for a challenge, but head south out of the Warcamp and follow the road until you reach Malagum's Charge. Your first priority should likely be to speak with General Malagum himself to bind you to this area in the event you want to run to the Inevitable City.

Malagum is the Rallymaster for this area so if you intend to grab the Chapter 4 Public Quest rewards there are 3 Public Quests available. The first is to the northeast and is called Tor Achare which pits you against...yes more High Elves. The second is called Lionhome Lodge and will throw you to the lions, quite literally. The final, and probably most interesting, Public Quest is far to the south (take the right fork where the road splits) and is called Stone of Valetear. If you are by yourself you can obviously grind out the Stage 1's until you get what you need.

On to the quests! One of the most worthwhile series to do in this area is called Legend and Infamy. Even if you don't forsee yourself needing a decent weapon, it's multi-part meaning multi-experience. Check with Fizzle who will get you along your way. Rykoth Ebonglaive will send you to kill one of the leaders of Chrace and if that doesn't fill your taste for blood then try his Lionsbane Banner or Guards of the Sea quest. Make sure you also go see Kilraena Dreamlasher. Her Double Edged and Thrill of Power quests will send you to various locations requiring frequent combat. Once all these tasks have been achieved you should be quite high enough to move in to Tier 2.
