Brewfest is one of the many holidays in World of Warcraft that emulates a real life holiday. The real life holiday that is being emulated is none other than the Bavarian Oktoberfest. It runs in the 2008 from the 20th of September until October 4th (2 weeks). The major focus of the holiday (if you don’t know what Oktoberfest is all about) is none other than booze! It’s a holiday full of liquor and spirits (and let’s not forget cheese and pretzels).

Like many of the holidays there are plenty of rewards to be had. The rewards really don’t have a major affect on the game since they’re mostly neat trinkets, like mounts, achievements, hats, and other knickknacks. All of the rewards (except for mounts) come from tokens which are awarded from daily quests.

Rewards

First and foremost the most important reward is the “Brew of the Month” Club Membership Form which is at 200 tokens currently. It’ll get you the Brewfest achievement in the future (well, it should anyway). The other items for sale are hats, dresses, boots, etc. that resemble Oktoberfest (or German type) wear. Various forms of hops can also turn your mount into something more festive temporarily and some cool goggles can turn everyone into either male gnomes or female orcs. A true must have. They’re at 100 tokens.

Wolpertinger’s Tankard is a pet only seen by your party and anyone who is drunk. It sells for 50 silver (another must buy) while the Brewfest Pony Keg is at 100 tokens and allows you to refill your stein that is given as a quest reward.

Ram Racing

Ram Racing

Ram racing is the most important skill for the majority of the quests. It’s much like riding a horse where you can be told over and over how to do it but until you’re mounted up and trying you’ll be at a complete loss at how it works and the timing.

Essentially ram racing involves you clicking on your Ram Racing Reins.  There are four speeds. “Nothing” which is a crawl, a “Trot” which is really slow, a “Canter” which is moderately fast, and a “Gallop” which is really fast. Any time you’re at a canter or gallop you’ll gain fatigue on your ram. Max fatigue and it’ll slow to a near crawl for fifteen seconds. Anytime you’re a trot or below you’ll regain fatigue.

Fatigue can be healed by apple barrels. These are only available for the delivery runs. The indoor advertising runs do not have apple barrels (meaning you need to manage fatigue carefully).

If you have trouble managing speed then bind the reins to your action bar and set it to an easy key like 1 and just focus on steering. Once you reach your desired speed then continue to tap on the reigns to maintain it.

Quests

Quests are the only way to get tokens to turn in for brewfest items. All items (but one pet) require tokens to be bought. Most quests are one time quests while there are a few dailies (some on 12 hour reset timers).

Introductory Quests

These quests are “introductory quests” that open up the rest of the Brewfest quests. Try to pick up Brewfest! from a commoner before getting Brewfest!. They’re in most major cities.

  • Brewfest!: Available before “Welcome to Brewfest!”. Asks you to speak to a Brewfest Organizer.
  • Welcome to Brewfest: Starts at the Brewfest Organizer in Orgimmar or Stormwind. Gives you a free beer.

Ram Racing Quests

The ram racing series of quests involve ram racing and end up with daily ram racing quests.

  • Now This is Ram Racing… Almost: This quest simply requires you to go get your ram to three different speeds. Use the reins to get it to one speed then click slowly to sort of maintain it for eight seconds then get to the next speed and repeat. You’ll get the hang of it. Feel free to use the full four minutes to practice riding since after the next ram racing quest you won’t be able to drop it and try again.
  • There and Back Again: This quest is simple. You need to get three barrels from the goblin or dwarf in four minutes. Use this quest to practice your barrel runs. There are a lot of strategies that people adhere to for the “shortest time” (which plays a key role in the next quest of the series). Horde have a more “direct” route since they simply need to go down the road a little while the Alliance have to go all the way close to the city.
  • “Do you have additional work?”: This is a repeatable quest available every 12 hours. The quest is the same as There and Back Again except you get 2 tokens for every barrel delivered and your time extended by 30 seconds. So the better you are at the racing the more tokens you can get (some report upwards to 20, extending their total time to 8 minutes or so). The trick is to find the best speeds, the best movements, and to hit the apple barrels long enough to remove the debuff but not long enough to slow you down.
  • Bark for ___ Distillery!: The different distilleries will have a different quest name, but they all share the same daily counter (one a day) so you can only do one. You get 15 tokens but the quest is difficult since there are no apple barrels inside of the city. You’ll need to research where the flags are ahead of time for your faction (just go through the town and look) before you accept the quest or at least have a good idea where each location is. Then switch between canter and trot as you go through town. If you can complete all four locations by 4 minutes then you can just use your mount to turn the quest in.

Other Quests

The rest of the quests.

  • Save Brewfest: Go to the Grim Guzzler in Blackrock Depths and speak with the Brewfest Spy. During the event you can either take the old fashion way or take one of the moles straight into the Grim Guzzler. Leads to Insult Coren Direbrew (but not necessary).  See our guide on this encounter for the rest of the quests in the series.
  • Say, There Wouldn't Happen to be a Souvenir This Year, Would There: Simply turn in the quest to the NPC nearby. Gives a free stein that doesn’t expire after the event.
  • Brew of the Month Club: For an achievement in the future.
  • Chug and Chuck! & the daily form of it This One Time, When I was Drunk: Loot the booze on the table and use it from your inventory five times. Gives you 10 tokens.

That’s pretty much it for Brewfest. What are you still reading for? Head out there and enjoy the festivities!
