Ten Ton Hammer's WAR Guild of the Week 10/06/08- 10/10/08

Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning is now in full swing and you're having a blast! You've got your Public Quests down, you're questing for the betterment of your chosen faction, and your significant other is wondering what in the hell this "No DPS! HEALS!" chant you keep screaming from the other room is, as you RvR. Yes, life is good in WAR, but you still feel like you're missing something. Playing solo is starting to wear on your experience. What do you need to fix this little problem in an otherwise exceptional game? You, my friend, need a guild. Guilds are an important part of any MMO experience. They provide a sense of commerarderie. They provide a sense of team accomplishment. And most importantly, sometimes they provide off color body function jokes in guild chat that make you laugh so hard, you run straight into a group of order players you didn't see while you were doubled over.

You obviously want to join a group of like minded folks, but how do you make that choice? Easy, you interview them! Ten Ton Hammer realizes the importance of having a good guild to play with and to that end, we present you with our WAR Guild of the Week segment. A feature designed to give you a little insight into the guilds of WAR and help give you a place to start when looking for the right guild for you.

This week we introduce Sinister Swarm, a Destruction guild on the Iron Rock server.

Guild Name: Sinister Swarm
Guild Type: Destruction
Server: Iron Rock
Members: around 400 (includes our True Swarmers from DAOC, EQ2, Guild
Wars, TF2, rl friends:)
Looking for: Cool and awesome players who love to PvP!
Guild Website: http://www.sinisterswarm.com/gw_forums/index.php

What kind of guild is Sinister Swarm and what are they all about?

In the beginning, the dreaded shadow of the Sinister Swarm was unleashed upon Everquest and Mythic Entertainment's Dark Age of Camelot. After dominating EQ & DaoC, all the while retaining the record for being the largest Midgard guild and holding one of the highest Realm Points totals on the Bors server for years, the Sinister Swarm now spreads their wings over the lands of Warhammer! Our guild founders began playing Warhammer Fantasy 25 years ago in the days of dice and pizza stained character sheets, so the Swarm was very excited to enter the Warhammer online universe!

Since then we have acquired years of precision PvP & RvR experience on the latest gaming platforms which we are now utilizing to strike fear into the hearts of those who serve Order! The Swarm believes in allegiance and honor. We enforce those tenets without mercy or pity. We maintain a structured Hive that exalts Swarmers who tirelessly slay our enemies and faithfully follow our laws.

As with any Hive, communication and teamwork is a requirement. Swarmers are expected to participate on our ventrilo server and guild forums. Those that choose isolation over contributing to the Hive will be ejected. In the Swarm, you will find the word "guild" is too small to describe our community. We have chapters in EQ, DaoC, GW, TF2, AoC, WAR, and more! Our strong leaders do not tolerate immaturity, disrespect, or drama..

Despite the dark and merciless nature of their Warhammer personas, you'll find Swarmers are some of the coolest people you'll ever want to meet. We diligently work on acquiring the best people across all gaming platforms, where each member is someone you'd want to hang out with (and often do) in real life. If you feel you are ready to get the most out of your gaming experience, and join a group of gamers that will soon feel more like a family to you, then you are ready to enter the SWARM!

What other games has Sinister Swarm been involved in and what sort of success have you seen in those games?

Everquest - Where the Swarm was born
DaoC - Our Longest running active chapter for over 6 years now.
Guild Wars - We dominated a top 13 guild, we made it to guild rank 89 (out of 10,000+ guilds) and became one of  Anet's guilds of the week
Age of Conan - Most here moved to WAR, but some still remain
TF2 and other Steam games - Also still active for those who enjoy FPS

What are the goals of Sinister Swarm in Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning?

Our goal is to become a community here (much like wherever we establish ourselves) that is a home for the coolest, more mature, fun players who enjoy highly organized strategic play. In addition to the interpersonal workings of the guild, on a more global scale we are also geared toward being part of dominant force on our server. Thus far we have had a great deal of success in RvR, and we look forward to more of the same. New invites are required to fill out an application and join the guild as prospects. They then have to earn their place as a true member of the Swarm. Those that do not live up to the Swarm's high expectations will find themselves without a guild very quickly! We efficiently weed through new recruits in order to find those True Swarmers. Although difficult to define, we do have some expectations of those aspiring to be deemed "True Swarmers." In addition to adhering to the fundamental principals that we expect all our members to have, HONOR, LOYALTY, and RESPECT weigh heavily in our book.

What sort of time commitment are you looking for from members per week? Are there level requirements or restrictions for members?

We understand everyone has a life outside of gaming and there is a wide variety of play times available to different individuals so we make no demands here. We would like our members to stay as active as their personal schedules allow. But if members will be gone for a significant amount of time, we would expect the courtesy of being informed.

We welcome all players regardless of level as long as they meet our above expectations. You can always level a character. But personalities are usually here to stay.

Do you require the use of Ventrillo/ Teamspeak for your guild members?

Yes, we do require the use of vent.

What level of importance do you place on the social aspect of your guild?

We put a tremendous importance on this! We are a guild that values a our community greatly.  WAR may be a game, but the SWARM is much, much more! The Swarm is a family that extends into our homes, and is there for us with friendly faces and voices on Vent whether chips are down or not. True Swarmers stand by each other no matter what, and prove themselves time and time again regardless of what is going on in the game. True Swarmers do not disregard the friendships and relationships we have established over these months and years. True Swarmers always help solve problems, we do not simply complain about them without being willing to help or offer solutions. This is OUR family, and we take care of our own! Win or loose the Swarm is ALWAYS here for us. This is a virtual meeting ground where we can all feel welcome at all times regardless of what activities we are engaged in. The friendships we build here are true and lasting! We are all about respect, honor, and friendship...But we kick drama, immaturity, and losers to the curb! We also have Swarm field trips where we hang out in person. LA Anime Expo was our recent one. Next trip will be Vegas Baby! :D

Is Sinister Swarm all about the end goal or more about the people involved?

Both! We believe that by maintaining the best possible environment for maintaining friendships that we are in a much better state long term as opposed to ONLY focusing on a rigid in game structure. In addition we do have very organized and serious RvR events that follow our end game guild goals. Years of experience has proven to us that both ingredients are key elements to a successful guild.

Does Sinister Swarm charge Guild dues/taxes? If so, how much and what are they used for?

Yes, we have a nominal 5% tax at this time, but most guildies offer to tithe more just because we all aim to help as much as possible. Taxes, and Tithes are used to pay:

- Keep Claiming
- Standards
- Teleportation Scrolls which take you to the Guild Tavern
- Special crafting items only purchasable in the Guild Tavern
- Reduced Cost Renown Gear (Available in the Guild Tavern)
- Reduced Cost Siege (Also available in the Guild Tavern)
- Helping Swarmers in need

If someone wanted to join your guild, what would be the best way to do so? Who should they get in contact with and is there an application involved?

They may contact Venom or Arwenthedark in game, as visit our web site, post their application, and become familiar with our guild expectations. www.sinsiterswarm.com
