Ten Ton Hammer's WAR Guild of the Week 10/13/08- 10/17/08

Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning is now in full swing and you're having a blast! You've got your Public Quests down, you're questing for the betterment of your chosen faction, and your significant other is wondering what in the hell this "No DPS! HEALS!" chant you keep screaming from the other room is, as you RvR. Yes, life is good in WAR, but you still feel like you're missing something. Playing solo is starting to wear on your experience. What do you need to fix this little problem in an otherwise exceptional game? You, my friend, need a guild. Guilds are an important part of any MMO experience. They provide a sense of commerarderie. They provide a sense of team accomplishment. And most importantly, sometimes they provide off color body function jokes in guild chat that make you laugh so hard, you run straight into a group of order players you didn't see while you were doubled over.

You obviously want to join a group of like minded folks, but how do you make that choice? Easy, you interview them! Ten Ton Hammer realizes the importance of having a good guild to play with and to that end, we present you with our WAR Guild of the Week segment. A feature designed to give you a little insight into the guilds of WAR and help give you a place to start when looking for the right guild for you.

This week we introduce Calamitous Intent, a Destruction guild on the Thorgrim server.

What kind of guild is Calamitous Intent and what are they all about?

We're mature MMO veterans who are seeking to explore the game world and have as much fun as possible while doing it! We all have professional careers and families and therefore do not follow the hardcore doctrines. But that does not mean we do not have goals or aspirations of glory!

What other games have Calamitous Intent been involved in and what sort of success have you seen in those games?

We have been in EQ1, EQ2 and WoW however the name Calamitous Intent is new for WAR. It was spawned after much deliberation, the name fit much better than the many other names which would have most likely gotten us banned. ;) As far as success in other games, I have led a raiding guild thru end game content in EQ2, and led a group of casual gamers in WoW wreak havoc on the Hordlings. Our success is always measured in the number of times we've killed someone because we were laughing so hard heals, taunts, or some ability wasn’t cast at the right time ;).

What are the goals of Calamitous Intent in Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning?

To level the guild as high as possible, explore lairs, and tackle epic content. And of course, wreak havoc and leave our "mark" all while doing it with as much humor, fun, and infamy as possible. We believe you can be casual and still enjoy the spoils of WAR, but our number one goal is to enjoy the content and each other. That is not to say we can't or won't be serious when the time is necessary, we just don't feel we should forget that we're playing a game.

What sort of time commitment are you looking for from members per week? Are there level requirements or restrictions for members?

Absolutely none. We all recognize that there are other things in life besides games and WAR so we will not now or ever have time or level requirements. However, we are looking for people who are social, who can enjoy mature humor and contribute to the banter. There may be level limits for specific events and, in the future we may, for the enjoyment of current and future members limit the acceptance level range. No one likes to join a guild at level 3 when the rest of the guild is level 40. That's a good way to feel left out without even getting to enjoy the game. The same could be said for having too many of one class in the guild. I've been in situations where I've had to rotate with other folks for a spot in a guild event and it just plain sucks. I don't want to see others experience that; it's just not fun. For now however, no limits of any kind exist and I don't see that changing until the game and guild matures.

Do you require the use of Ventrillo/ Teamspeak for your guild members?

Require is a strong word, I would say more like encourage. It can be intimidating to talk to a group of complete strangers so we would certainly never require you to do that. But, it would be beneficial to you and the guild to at least listen to strats during events.

What level of importance do you place on the social aspect of your guild? Is Calamitous Intent all about the end goal or more about the people involved?

We prefer to have a little of both really. The people in our guild have been gaming together for years.  We have formed lasting friendships because of the guild(s) we were in. We've shared ups and downs and in-betweens together. Guilds can be more than just a collection of people achieving in game success; a group of like-minded folks meshing together can do anything in a game. You get back what you put in and together those rewards are sweeter.

Does Calamitous Intent charge Guild dues/taxes? If so, how much and what are they used for?

Not yet, Tithe is voluntary currently. This will be discussed and could potentially be implemented as we mature and grow the force. It is an interesting feature that can help grow the guild's coffers but is also something that should be carefully managed and explained to the membership why it's necessary and how it will be used.

If someone wanted to join your guild, what would be the best way to do so? Who should they get in contact with and is there an application involved?

The quickest way would be to visit our site http://calamitousintent-war.com/phpbb and fill out an application. I know folks hate doing that but and often question why. To us it's a way of telling us about you, and showing us you're committed to something more than just having a guild tag and access to our spoils. Otherwise myself (Nurta) or our members can be contacted in game by /tells or mail.  We will talk with you and answer any questions you may have about us or our goals. See you on the battlefield!
