EVE Online Announces its latest expansion, Quantum Rise.

While my mailbox fills up with announcements and reminders to pre-order expansions for a myriad of MMOs launching in the next 60 days, the notice today from EVE Online is about their ninth free expansion, Quantum Rise. The bulk of the information in the press release centers on the increase in technology back in CCP's server farm. The StacklessIO and EVE64 technical back office projects are the pre-cursors necessary to support the performance boosts expected. From CCP:

"We are very proud to be delivering this expansion, both in terms of features and the sheer performance increases made possible by deep refactoring of selected portions of our network and server code, complimented with the finest hardware we could find," says Torfi Frans Ólafsson, Senior Producer of EVE Online. "I can't imagine a better game where you can engage hundreds of people simultaneously in highly immersive tactical combat or simply sit back and make millions off of the conflict via research, manufacturing or logistics. You choose your destiny; that's the beauty of it."

So far the news is about CCP providing a bigger, better, faster, more stable platform, but hopefully we'll learn more about the game changes soon. They did provide some notes about new features such as "Weapon linking to make your onslaught easier" which sounds like fun. To read the rest, go to EVE Online.
